Hello. Is 4 full days enough in Split? We are a family of 4. Two older teens and two parents. We would like to explore, tour, maybe go on a boat excursion or two and fly out of Split back to the US. Is this all possible? How are the beaches in Split? I hear about these nude beaches in Hvar. That is something we all want to avoid. This is for the last week in June. Thanks. Any specific companies, places to stay or try-- tours. We are all ears. And what to avoid!! Do we need to rent a car?

Only you can answer questions about whether the timing works! Figure out what you want to see and experience and plot them on a calendar. Ditto re: the car, though I would note that there's more than enough to do in and around Split to fill your time without a car.

Rent a car and visit small villages not known for tourism. Cross into Bosnia for some beautiful scenery and delicious foods. Komarna;Ston.

Use buses and boats to get around. Trogir and Split and the islands, hiking would be easiest. Staying in your metal box just sounds like not-a-holiday, get out and meet people, go on little pedestrian ferries or small tours.

Isn’t a bus a metal box?. Having a car allows you to visit farm stands dotted along the roads selling all kinds of farm grown fruits and veggies while supporting family owned farms. Also local vineyards selling delicious wines for very modest prices. Again supporting families. Sibenik a great day trip. 1 hour by car. 2.5 hours by bus. Kastel Novi (beautiful area with very few tourists…20 min by car). June will be hot and very crowded. Buses will be packed with people/ hot and uncomfortable and you are tied to the mast on their schedules. 4 days is ample to join the Split area. Use your time wisely.

Four days in Split? Adequate -- likely. Ample? It depends one what one want to see and experience, and how far one is willing to travel for a day trip! Four days would not have been enough for me for the broader area.

4 full days in Split is actually a really good amount of time, especially with a family. You can comfortably explore the city, do a couple of day trips, and still have time to relax. Split itself has plenty to see, but the real highlight is using it as a base. From there you can do things like: - a day trip to islands (Hvar, Brač, Blue Lagoon, etc.)- Krka waterfalls- nearby towns like Trogir A lot of people actually say 3–4 days in Split is ideal if you’re mixing city + excursions. Beaches in Split are good, but keep expectations realistic. Most are pebble rather than sandy (that’s typical for Croatia), but the water is incredibly clear.Žnjan is the biggest beach in the city, and Bačvice is one of the rare sandy ones and very family-friendly. Don’t worry about nude beaches, you won’t just randomly end up on one. It’s very easy to avoid them. For getting around: you definitely do NOT need a rental car if you’re staying in Split.Uber works great, and everything in the old town is walkable. For excursions and boat trips, I’d honestly recommend going with a local provider rather than trying to organize everything yourself. We used MC Travel Croatia (small family-run company) and had a great experience. Did a Krka day trip with stops in Trogir and Primošten, and also a half-day boat trip from Split. Super flexible and easy to deal with. As for what to avoid: - don’t overpack your itinerary (leave time to relax)
- avoid eating right on the main square without checking reviews- don’t rely on last-minute bookings in late June — it gets busy Overall, your plan sounds spot on. Split is a great base for exactly the kind of trip you’re describing.

Thinking it might be crowded with cruse ships. We do not like feeling like we are with the masses. I read somewhere to avoid old town from 10-4 when cruise ships are there.

What is the rest of the itinerary?
There are nude beaches everywhere, but the kids won’t be interested, as it is generally people much older than them who are partaking. FKK beaches are usually signposted as only partakers are welcome.

number of days depends on what you want to do and see, Split is great position for day trips by ferry especially.
