We (2 couples) are looking for an apartment in split (early May). Any recommendations?

It probably would be MUCH more helpful to post with a location :)

Are there agencies dealing with rentals in Croatia? I haven't found any. Not much info on Croatia at www.slowtrav.com.

No worries, sometimes I'm a bit slow on the uptake :)

I've had the most luck (in other parts of Croatia) by googling the name of the place and "apartment." The Split tourist board websites have links also. In early May, you could show up and immediately find a place, if you are not particular.

We rented two rooms in Base Apartments: www.base-rooms.com. We found them quite comfortable and the location is awesome. We stayed 2 nights and loved being in Diocletian's palace. The only thing to consider is this area is pedistrian. My husband had two carry/roll our luggage a little ways and then up a flight or two of stairs in the apt. If you travel lightly I highly recommend this apt. We loved Split.
