Split?

We are going to Croatia in June. We have 2 daughters 17 and 20 who will go with us. Our plan is to see Dubrovnik for sure and drive the coast to Split. But I'm not too sure about staying in Split. I'm having a hard time finding much info. We like eating, shopping, people watching and sight seeing. We also like beaching. What is a good amount of time to spend in Split or is there a better option? We're looking at 3 or 4 nights in the area.

I would stay in Trogir. lovely walled city not far from Split & not as busy 3 or 4 nights would be good ,great for people watching sat having a coffee at the keyside. there ae some good B&Bs there to, if you want more details I can look up for the place were we stayed etc . E mail me.

of your into beaching it consider Omis or Makarska which is between Split and Dubrovnik. I'm hoping to stay in Trogir this year for a few days before heading out to Vis and then back to Hvar.

try this web site - lots of started information:

As is often said about trips to Croatia, It would be a shame to go to Croatia and not have some time on one of the islands.

We found Split interesting for a day or 2 but with Split and Dubrovnik it will be very much all cities. Stopping in Hvar, Korcula, some island would be nice.

I also recommend staying in Trogir and doing Split on a day trip. In one full day, we toured Diocletian's Palace, a UNESCO site, then drove a bit north and toured the extensive Roman ruins of Salona. We enjoyed staying at Hotel Villa Sikaa in Trogir which has a nice view of the old town. It's comfortably furnished and the rates are reasonable -- $85 double last year, breakfast included. Be forewarned, though, that there is no lift at the hotel. We climbed 6 flights of stairs but it's do-able, even for oldsters like us. www.vila-sikaa-r.com
