Splendide Royal hotel in Rome
I have been searching for some feedback on this hotel but have come up empty handed. Expedia is showing a rate of $247/night. Is this a really great deal, or just a case of you-get-what-you-pay-for? Perhaps I should go with the safe bet, pony up the extra $100, and stay at the Exedra. Anyone have any first-hand knowledge out there?
Thanks! |
Hi. I am staying there in a couple of weeks. Did the same thing you did...got scared that the rate on Expedia was so low. We are paying $313. We went back and tried to add a night and it is now almost 400.00. I have a friend that works at the Embassy (American) in Rome. He says that it is a top notch, first class, beautiful new hotel. He highly recommended it. Email me if you have any questions. He said it is a true 5 star.

Hi jal716 -- Many thanks for your great reply! Because of your comments, I just booked the $247 Expedia rate (knowing I can cancel if you give it bad marks upon your return). I wish you a great trip, and hope the hotel is as beautiful as it sounds. I look forward to your review (hint, hint).

Okay...look for a review around Sept. 21....that is when we get home.

This was a great hotel. Loved it!!!!!!! It is beautiful with lots of extras. Breakfast was may types of fresh fruit, eggs, ham, bacon, plus the regular European breakfast. I can't say enough good things about it. Curtains block out all light, no noise...wonderful place to get good sleep. We paid more than that and I thought it was a good deal.

Hello, this is my first time posting in this forum.
It is Sunday morning here in NY and I'm just starting to check out websites where I can get info on Rome and Sorrento. I will be travelling with my husband this Thursday, Oct.2!! This was a very last minute idea as you can imagine! Because of this we had help from a travel agent friend who has booked us at The Splendide Hotel and I'm very happy to read your comments. Espcially about the breakfast deal since my hubby loves his eggs in the am when we go on vacation.... I'm so looking forward to this trip and if you have any more comments on the hotel, such a the rest. and views, I'd greatly appreciate them!!! |
This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed. There is a whirlpool bathtub with different color lights...when you are taking a bath, and have the jets on, the colors change from pink to green/blue/red/yellow. It is really fun. The bathrooms are marble, they have turndown service with slippers that they put by your bed, nice fluffy robes and towels. Think Ritz-Carlton. We were in a suite with two tv's, two mini bars, two huge closets. We didn't eat at the restaurant. Men have to wear a coat and it is expensive, but I am sure it is great. The breakfast was fantastic. Email me if you have any more specific questions.

Thank you so much for your comments!
I can't wait to be on the plane this Thurs... |
Thanks for the great comments, jal716! We will certainly stick with our reservation as a result. I don't suppose that the wonderful breakfast you wrote about was included in the Expedia rate, was it?
|
Yes, the wonderful breakfast was included in the expedia rate. I emailed expedia and asked them prior to going. Just in case there was a problem, I took that email with me. They do ask you for your room number every morning when you eat, but there is not a charge. They also have a healthclub and pool that are also included in the expedia rate.

One thing I didn't say in previous posts that my husband said I should say is that the staff isn't quite up too par. Considering the quality of the hotel, they weren't as helpful as they should have been. Although they are very nice. We asked for them to make some reservations and they said that it wouldn't be necessary for Neuro's Golden House. Everything we had read said to make reservations. Ended up that we didn't have time to do it anyway. But, they did make reservations for a couple of other things...just not as "excited" about helping us as we thought they should have been. It could have been because their English wasn't great. Staff in restaurant is also very nice, but weak English. But as my husband says, "we are vistors in THEIR country." So, just don't be totally dependant on them for reservations unless you speak Italian. Hope this doesn't come across that they weren't nice because they were very nice...just some language problems.

My husband and I just returned from a 10 day tour of some of Italy and stayed three nights at this hotel in Rome. Though we got a good rate thru orbitz (250 euro per night) I must agree with the previous poster that the staff are not up to par for a four star hotel. On three separate occassions we asked the staff to make us reservations for dinner etc and on each occassion we had to check back to see if it had been done and never did they have it written down that they did it. They are both receptionist and conceirge and dont do the conceirge part well. Lastly on our last night the elevator broke and there was no sign and by 7 a.m. the following morning it was still broken and still no sign and no help.. and when asked at the front desk the staffer was of little help. I am writing a long letter to the management... the staff here is not up to par but the rooms are equal to their contemporaries in the same price range.
