Spend a couple of nights in which town on way from Ravenna to Bellagio

Hello - My family and I are renting a villa in Southern Umbria for a week, then spending a few nights at Malvarina. From there we will drive north to Ravenna and spend the day checking out the mosaics. Where should we spend the next two nights before ending with a few nights in Bellagio? The drive from Ravenna to Bellagio is 4 hours so we want to stop at another city or town. I know the choices are pretty much Ferrara, Bologna or even Verona. Does anyone have a good recommendation for an in-town place to stay and in which city? We are two 12 year olds, 2 parents, 1 grandparent. Thanks for your help. Susan

Go to Verona, a delightful town with lots to see and wonderful food, and stay here: http://www.residenceveronahouse.com/home.uk.html.

I would say Bologna but then again I live here so I am kind of biased. Verona is beautiful also.

Verona, without a doubt. The city where Romeo and Juliet took place! Stay at the lovely Due Torre Baglioni . If that is too expensive, try the Accademia. they have connecting rooms for families.

I think the Due Torri Baglioni is way too expensive for us. In fact, the Accademia isn't that cheap either. But maybe Verona is just one of those expensive cities. We have never been to any of the places I mentioned or to much of northern Italy (except Venice). Two out of three of you are recommending Verona over the Emilia-Romagna region. Anyone else?

Another vote for Verona! Charming city, wonderful passeggiata, great food, Roman ruins, churches, great little museums . .

Try Il Torcolo - under $100 a night - pleasant staff and centrally located.

We stayed at the Romeo and Juliet in Verona last September. Wonderful location. Lovely city. Ate dinner at 12 Apostles.
