Speeding Ticket in France?

Hi,
I think I got flashed in a tunnel in Paris last fall. When I returned the rental car there was some funny business. About 10 days later Hertz put an administrative charge on my card. Since the charge was not explained I disputed it (and later won). I later found out that it may have been the administrative fee for providing my information to the French authorities, however, I never received a ticket. Since I disputed the charge, Hertz won't talk to me. I've called both the Consulate in Denver and San Francisco. They're no help. I've looked at their on-line link which is only usable if you have a ticket and are trying to pay it. Can anybody advise who I would contact to find out if I do have a ticked to pay? Thanks in advance.

If the administrative charge was about 25€ you indeed received a moving violation and should have paid Hertz as this fee is always part of the rental agreement.

However, you may or may not actually receive the fine from the National Police (the French consulate has nothing to do with the National Police). If you do receive notice of the fine, pay it, the police have a collection website in English. Otherwise, forget about it and slow down the next time you drive in France.

The address used to send the fine is obviously the one on the rental agreement. If there was a mistake of any kind in the address, the actual fine cannot reach you.

But you are toast as far as renting from Hertz again.

If that matters to you, a call to their customer service, a request to reinstate the charge, and some grove long may change that. Or not.

If you do this, let us know the result.

You can pay speeding fines online in different languages at the following government website: https://www.amendes.gouv.fr/portail/index.jsp

Yes, but you do have to receive the fine in order to be able to pay it.
