I kind of agree with those posters who feel you'd be let down with that fancy first night to compare your apartment with. How about a very confortable first night? I'd stay at the Hilton Paris Eiffel in a delux king room with view of the Eiffel Tower and I'd book dinner at Clos du Gourmets or Les Olivides (both in walking distance). You'd come in quite a bit less than $1000 with a comfy sleep to get over the jetlag and great first meal.

You could try booking at "Le Walt" in the 7th and having dinner at Jules Verne if it has reopened. This hotel is really nice without being over the top. Also in the 7th there are many more reasonably priced restaurants that you would enjoy---Les Ormes, Thiou, Auguste, Chamarre. Have a great time.
