special anniversary trip to Rome

Okay, I'm needing some quick advice on a last minute trip to Rome. My husband and I are having our 15th anniversary in November. I was racking my brain trying to come up with a special gift. I just couldn't find anything special enough. He has always wanted to visit Rome. We live in Germany so we don't have very far to travel. I booked a flight tonight for Nov 15th (early morning), until Nov. 18th (late evening). Aside from all the usual tourist sites, can anything think of anything we could do that might be extra special for us as a couple? My husband is in the Air Force and constantly flying all over the world, which leaves me at home with our 3 boys. (Ages 13, 12, and 9) This will be our first trip alone together in 15 years. I just want it to be special. Does anyone have any advice on romantic hotels or places to visit? Thanks so much~

We just did our 10th in April...congrats! A few things...when you visit the Trevi Fountain, if you stand facing the fountain there is a little "market" behind you and off to the left. We purchased some wine, olives, cheese and bread and had an inpromptu picnic on the steps.

A good restaurant recommendation is Ristorante Il Gabriello. While it is listed in Rick Steve's book, we were the only non-locals. The food was amazing, the have a great wine list and it is really initimate. Only about 12 tables. Very romantic.

Enjoy and safe travels!

Hi Ortizboys3. We have recently returned from our 20th anniversary trip which included Rome for 6 nights. We stayed at the Albergo Del Senato right at the Pantheon. If you click on my name and scroll down and find 20th Anniversary trip to Paris, Italian Lakes and Rome you may get some ideas. It is a fairly lengthy report. Even though I didn't think it was "my thing" I have to say I really enjoyed the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican museum. The Galleries Borghese and the surrounding park were also beautiful. Have a read and see what you think.

What's your price for a hotel?

Thanks all for the help so far. Not on a very big budget for this trip. Was kind of a last minute idea of mine. Have been looking @ alot of Bed & Breakfasts that really seem to have more personalized service. Right now I am focusing on Surprising In Rome, A Bed & Breakfast that seems to be very centrally located between Piazza Navona, the Vatican and Saint Peter's, Castel Sant'Angelo and Campo dei Fiori.
Has anyone ever stayed there? All the feedback from guest reviews on Venere.com have been excellent. Actually every review gave 5 stars. It seems the owners go out of their way to help with touring and any questions on travel. While reading the reviews they say things like "Ask them the story of how they met. It is an aweomse story", which leads me to believe you really get to know them, and learn aobut their culture. A nice advantage I found there was breakfast included and can be brought to the room for no extra charge. The rooms look extremely big, especially for Europe and each has 2 bathrooms with a bathtub. It is incredibly cheap @ 99 Euro /night. I would be more than willing to spend double or triple that if I thought I would be getting way more for my buck. Schnauzer I will have a look @ your forums & motorcitygirl, I will definitely check out the romantic restaurant while we are there. Thanks...any more suggestions?

I suggest you look atluxurylink.com, they offer some fantastic packages in Rome, for three or four nights.
Stay near the Pantheon, so that you can walk to everything. Keep walking though, We went to Rome for a anniversary and wound up with our daughter, born 12 years after our youngest of three sons. An anniversary gift I'll never forget and will never regret!!!
Enjoy,
Alberto
