Special accommodation in Italy
 

Hi there,
I was planning a surprise for my wife for our anniversary. Because she is such a huge Italy fan I have booked a flight to Verona. I have tried to find some nice and special and of course some kind romantic accommodation for us, but I only can find expensive stuff here http://bit.ly/1QWst2c. I also tried some other site but I can’t find anything that seem special enough. (My budget limit is 2K-2.5K)
Do you guys have any ideas or tips for me? Where do you book your accommodation? It doesn't have to be luxurious or something. I just want something with a really nice atmosphere and a place which make you feel comfortable.

I would appreciate every tip you give me.

It would help to know how long you would be staying, 2.5K in which currency, and is that amount just for accomodation only, or does in include day to day expenses and flights?
Also time of year is important - Verona in Opera season and Verona in November are likely to be very different in terms of cost.

Have you looked on AirBnb? Some of the properties there are bed/breakfasts as well as being private apartments.

Also, check booking.com for your dates if you haven't already. It has an easy-to-use map feature that shows you the location. Some that are across the river (near the roman theatre or south of there) than can be nice.

Verona is a very romantic city! Nice choice.

WE would like to help, but your budget is meaningless until you tell us what currency your "2K-2.5K" is in and how long a time period you are planning. I might suggest you try Airbnb for Verona, airbnb.com select the price range you are condidering, and see what comes up. You could try Booking.com, as well.

Have you made your mind up about Verona, loads of nice cities that don't charge a premium rate nearby.

You don;t give your specific dates but usually venere.com has lodgings in all price ranges.

Agree you need to give us your dates and nightly price in a specific currency - if we are to help you.

Take a look at Corte Realdi on booking.com. Wherever you book, you should tell the hotel it is your wedding anniversary, and a surprise gift for your spouse.

Basically, I stay in appartments of strangers right? Did anyone of you experience this before? I am not sure, if it's romantic to stay in a private appartment for anniversary. What do you think about it?

How can that be when you said in your OP you've already booked your flight?

Whether staying in an aprtment for an anniversary is romantic or not, I suppose very much depends on you and your wife. Personally I find Apartments much nicer than Hotels as I feel less retricted.

I have often used the Homeaway site to find holiday rentals, and it has always worked out well for me.

One thing to look into, it is likely to be pretty cold in Verona in February, so you might want to check that heating is covered in any given price.

About the only difference in staying in an apartment is that you will need to find your own breakfast. Otherwise, the extra space, having a refrigerator where you can store cheese, fruit and having glasses for your own wine can be cozy if the apartment is well decorated.

Wherever you stay, you can just mention your anniversary in an e-mail, and tell them you are coming to Verona as a surprise gift to your wife. You won't have to prove anything. If it is possible at a hotel, they might upgrade you to a bigger room, or landlord might give you a basket of fruit or some wine and flowers. I wouldn't expect much, but they might do something especially nice, which will be nice for your wife.

Be aware that the romantic holiday of San Valentino/Valentine's Day (February 14) might raise prices for hotels in Verona. Many restaurants in Verona will only be offering a special "San Valentino menu" for two, which can be expensive. So you might want to avoid those days.
