Speakers Corner Info
Hello, I am visitng my son in a study abroad program in 2 weeks. On Sunday, 3/2 I would like to visit Speakers Corner as part of our itinerary for that day. The guide books say to stop by early afternoon to early evening. Can anyone tell me if that info is accurate? I didn't know if this is more of a summer activity or if it goes on year-round. Thank-you

babs47........the guide book info doesnt sound accurate to me...I have been to London numerous times and I visit Speakers Corner every time...In my experiences the busiest times are between 11:00am-2:00pm..seems to empty out after that...maybe it picks up again in the evening, but I do know its very active in the hours I mentioned...its a lot of fun...and yes, its year round....

Was at Speakers' Corner last Sunday, about 1 pm and on this brilliant sunny warm february day there were a handful of speakers - dominated by religious zealots both Christian and Moslem
I've been to Speakers Corner many times thru the years and it just does not seem as vibrant as it once was - political discourses seem to have given way to a few religious Crusaders. IMO SC ain't what it was and is worth a short visit perhaps just to see the vestiges of what once was that's my take after several visits in recent years at all times of year |
My husband had always wanted to see/hear Speaker's Corner, so we visited on an early Sunday afternoon, and the only "speaker" there was talking about circumcizing. A little too bizarre for us. We took a picture, checked it off of our "places we must see", and left.
I hope your visit is more rewarding. Robyn :)>- |
The best way to see Speakers' Corner is to start out walking along the Bayswater Road side of Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park. On Sunday mornings it is a 3/4 mile long open air art gallery. Some really schlocky/touristy stuff, and some really good stuff. Walk from west to east along the park and you end up near Speakers' Corner. But if you leave it until the afternoon most of the artists will be gone - and so will most of the speakers . . . .
