Spanish translation "chapero"

When my brother-in-law asked the server for a second cup of coffee during breakfast at our Madrid hotel recently, the server replied.."si si chapero te dare mas cafe". I think he was a little peeved at having to make more coffee just for my brother-in-law
:( However every morning until we left this server would call out to my brother-in-law.. Hola Chapitero....quieres mas cafe?? We have searched our Spanish dictionary in vain for a translation of this word but have found nothing. So please, what is a "chapero"?

troll or not? Jul 16th, 2002 10:08 AM

"chapero" seems to be a slang expression for a gay.

Did not find anything about "chapitero" though.

We had the same trouble when we traveled through Spain. I angered the desk clerk ask him to lend me his torredor outfit. Everyday after that he said "Buenos dias bendajo!" We searched and searched and could not find "bendajo" anywhere in our Spanish dictonaries. I finnally concluded that it must mean friend, so I began to use my new word on my vacation such as "Gracias bendajo" and "Como esta bendajo?" People seemed to be a little put off by it, I just couldn't figure it out...

possible Jul 16th, 2002 05:27 PM

Dear ?? -- I think that what you heard as 'bendajo' was possibly 'pendejo', which, as far as I know, means 'asshole'.

"chaperito" is used a lot in Mexico in a friendly fashion. It means a short or physically small person.
Haven't heard it used in Spain, however.

you will never hear "pendejo" in Spain, unless a mexican is speaking.
