Spanish (?) places warmer than Paris in Feb

We will escape ice and snow by arriving in Paris on Feb 9, fly home to still cold Colorado on March 9. Where shall we go? I am thinking of just looking at weather reports the last few days before we leave, but I love researching, planning, dreaming. We are 75, healthy, speak French and Spanish. We love trains and buses, do not plan to rent a car. Suggestions? Thank you.

We spent 7 weeks this past winter in Spain - arrived mid January and stayed in Altea for 3 weeks (south of Valencia) and then spent a week near Marbella, then a week in Seville and a week in Madrid. The weather was fantastic! Day time temps between 15C and 20C - sometimes warmer. Bear in mind it was possibly a little warmer than usual - we were sitting outside even at night in Altea. Highly recommend Altea it's a great destination as it's particularly known for it high number of days of sunshine per year.

Madrid was the coolest (first week of March) but even so we could sit outside during the day.

As said, Andalusia will be quite agreeable - and very rich in history, arts, culture and architecture. Also, cities like Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Cadiz, Malaga have excellent train connections. Madrid will be cold because of the altitude.

An option in France would be the Côte d'Azur which will also be nice in February, at least if you are staying east of the Esterel mountain chain (in Cannes or further east), because the Mistral wind does not reach that far. Also, easy train connections.

So, what about two weeks in Andalusia, then flying to Nice, and two weeks on the Côte d'Azur?

We are looking at Andalusia this winter. I would love those temps. I have been tracking the averages and not bad at all.

I don't understand why you are flying into Paris. Jan-February are the coldest months of the year there, you are not guaranteed that there won't be ice problems there. At least it's not January.

I just don't understand why you would do that if your goal is to go to Spain, which I think is a fine idea.

Flying into Paris because of great airfare on Icelandair--and who can resist a few days in Paris at anytime?

South coast of spain or indeed portugal are pretty good in Feb. I might also look at Morocco which will be up in the 25C if you stay away from the coast.

I don't understand why Christina starts every post with "I don't understand".

Altea and Mojcar are delightful. You might want to look at Antequera which is sighted right in the middle of Andalucia. Easy to reach all the major spots by public transport.

You could try one of the Canary islands for a week of (almost) guaranteed sun.
You can get around by taxi or bus easily enough, certainly on the island I am on right now - La Palma. Either rent an apartment (preferably on the west side) or maybe stay at www.hotelhaciendadeabajo.com/. I haven't stayed there we always rent a car and a house, but it gets good writes up.
But any of the islands will offer you sun and enough to do for a week, except maybe La Gomera and El Hierro.

3000 year old Málaga by the Med, the warmest winter climate in Europe and "the province's city of culture with its so-called 'mile of art' being compared to Madrid, and its dynamism and fine dining to Barcelona." https://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/andalucia/malaga
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...isit.html?_r=3

And the old Gran Hotel Miramar from 1926 will then just recently have reopened. 9000 m2 gardens and five "culinary spaces" within the hotel. http://www.granhotelmiramarmalaga.com/en/

I would head straight for Andalusia - one of the few places in europe with reliably pleasant weather at that time of year. Won't be beach weather but will be warm enough to sit outside and tour comfortably and with this time you can really explore Andalusia in depth.

Not sure why you want to fly into Paris at all since it's likely to be cold and perhaps even snowy. Why not Madrid and rent a car and head south.
