spammed by using my real email-DON'T DO IT!
I replied to some posts here and lo and behold...all this travel hustle in my mail box. Now I know why everybody uses fake names here!
Actually, there are many threads addressing this -- you use a "free" account on excite, yahoo, iwon, or wherever so you can change it. To be honest, I get less spam on my forum email account than I do on my "real" one. In fact, I don't think I've gotten any since the art guy tried to sell us all his prints. (Maybe it would have been different if he was any good!)
Sheesh... some people have all the luck -- all I get are ads for pornography and viagra!!! I use the "bulk mail" feature on hotmail to redirect most of it.
Hey S. Folwer
We must be on the same mailing lists---Viagra and porno.
My darling wife says "you don't need Viagra" and the rest is deleted as fast as a pick pocket picks.
Hello All, I never had spam or unwanted e-mail associated with this site. I do get stuff from Fodors, and that is because I enter their travel contests all the time. And like Sally said, I redirect some of it to my bulk mail folder. Judy :-)

I get spam every day on my MSN hotmail account which I have never used here. In fact I only got because it was free and I wanted to have another. I get porno spans almost every day and yet I hardly ever use that account. If you have MSN mail there are many outfits out there that automatically generate spams to any msn e-mail account that they find. I'd be interested in how many of you that get a lot of spam are on MSN mail.
Regards
Art
After using my real email about a year ago, I too have been bombarded with porno and viagra.

My spouse and I are very happy, thank you . . .
Have never gotten any spam that I can attribute to fodor's web site. But, whenever a do a search for flights, hotels etc. on the web. I do. Within a few days I start "winning" free trips, getting credit offers etc. One of the hazzards of using the net to plan a trip on the net I guess. There's a clear pattern that tells me it's got nothing to do with my visits to the Fodor's website.
Yucky -- someone sent spam to the e-mail address I use here, saying specifically they'd "seen me on the Fodor's board." I don't care for that, but I wouldn't stop using a real e-mail address because of it. It's nice when someone writes and asks an actual question based on something they've read from me here.

I resent this spamster, though, since the subject line made me think the message was something I'd actually want to read, not some silly promo.
I got that same "I saw you on Fodor's" spam, as, I suspect, did everyone else. This isn't a random spam like the porn, etc. ones, but an individual along the lines of the "artist." I hope Marty (the spammer) is serious about it being a one-off thing.
Hi;
Marty found me too. He must have been a busy lad last night!
I'm feeling 'invisible' (like the women on the 'pinch my rear in Italy' thread.

I've had online accounts through MSN (mostly) since 1994 when the internet was much younger, and I've never received spam mail of any type. Hmmmm. I shower every day, pay my bills, go to church....
Hi,

Marty did mail me, as well. And I know the viagra offerings. Most of the porn mails seem to be from some address in Russia...

Miriam
I got Marty's spam, as well (hence the false identity above--the first time I've done that, by the way). However, since it's the first spam on my hotmail account I can trace to Fodors I'm not distressed about it--just blocked him.
No sooner did I state this, then Marty spammed me too! Bummer,,,, oh well,
Judy :-(
Marty hasn't got me yet. I've posted 5 times in the last 24 hours with my real e-mail address. Anonymous this time. What post were you guys on?
I have been posting on this board for a number of years, sometimes using my real address, and have never been spammed. But don't want to take any chances this time...
Art, recently a lot of my spam purports to come FROM MSN (addresses obviously edited to @MSN.com, as distinct from @hotmail.com), don't know why they do this as it makes it easier to filter, I suppose they must really hate Bill G.
I complained to MSN, got a reply on how to decode false addresses & report abusers to their ISPs.
Don't think any of my spam is via Fodors, its been a long time since I posted my real email address.
By the look of my hotmail spam, people are using semi-random address generators & mailing them all knowing that some will be genuine. As hotmail is so big, this would work.
Too many open relays about?
