Spain's RENFE website- can't find a train!
I'm thinking of heading to Granada from Sevilla for an overnight to see the Alhambra. However the RENFE website doesn't list any trains for the dates I'm entering and I'm trying each day of the week we want to go.
The site does say they run trains between the cities so it should be possible. Is it possible the tickets are sold out?! What should I do? |
When will you be travelling? If you're checking too far in advance, perhaps the train schedule hasn't been loaded onto the Renfe system yet.
There is also a bus that connects the two cities, run by Alsa. |
Thanks for the quick reply!
The week I'll be in Sevilla is June 21-28. I'm not particular about which night to spend in Granada. Is it too far? Should I just get tickets when I arrive? The few times I've taken the train from Madrid I just get my tickets at the station when I want to go. Is this risky? I've never had problems getting on a train. |
The Renfe system has suffered a major glitch in the past weeks and Renfe is notoriously slow in loading its summer trains into the system, and all of that may be the reason you're not seeing availability. Yes, there are trains from Seville to Granada, but there are also buses, and the bus schedule is actually a bit better than the train because there are more daily departures.
So, as yk says, check www.alsa.es |
You can look at timetables on the RENFE site without specifying a date for booking. There are four trains every day between Granada and Sevilla with a journey time of about three hours.

Well, even though you may not need to get bus/train tickets in advance, you certainly need to buy your Alhambra ticket in advance!
And if you have your Alhambra ticket booked, if I were you, I would then book the train or bus to Granada. I wouldn't want to miss my Alhambra entry just because I couldn't get a ticket for the bus or train to Granada! |
Thanks again everyone!
I have the Alhambra tickets and a room booked at the Hesperia Granada (going for cheap as we're leaving a paid apt. for the night). I'm hoping for a train as I get motion sick and a bus would be very bad for me, I'm usually ok on a train. I was able to book AVE tickets as far out as June 28. I'll keep my eye on the Granada trip in the next week or so before I leave. |
