I very much enjoyed my November 2002 stays at both of the following hotels.

Though I don't have the web addresses handy, they are online:

Granada: A.C. Hotel Santa Paula; $132;
Newlu Opened, Renovated historical building; Great Location: 33 Gran V de Colon; Tel: 011 34 (90) 229-2293

Seville; Taberna Del Alabardero; $144; More of a Cozy/Romantic type of place; Street: 20 Zaragoza; Tel: 011 34 (95) 450-2721

Not sure what your agent recommended for Barcelona, but we stayed that the Ritz. I found tired and overly expensive, $277. Not recommended.
For Spain I have always found http://www.hotelsearch.com/completesearch.html is pretty useful although for most places it means a phone call.
In Lisbon try Recidecial Alegria 00 351) 01 347 55 22] and in Porto try Hotel Peninsula [PHONE
(00 351) 02 200 30 12]

Can suggest very reasonable hotels in several of those places, but I'l have to check our journal for the names. Will get back to you.

The one I can remember off the top of my head is the Hotel Santander in Madrid. Well-located between Peurto del Sol and the Prado area. On a quiet street but otherwise right in the core. Good mid-range hotel, reasonably priced.

There is lots of great info on this board - for Spain in particular, look for advice from Maribel and Olga!

Your best text search results will come from "barcelona and hotel" (substituting appropriate city name for each.)

Many of the most popular small hotels may already be booked up for your longer stays in the main cities, so using a hotel booking site that allows you to search by dates might be useful, at least as a way to know who to call for availability. One of these sites (suggested by Olga?) is www.hotelclub.net. You might also try www.bancotel.com

Type in the name of the city, then at the bottom of the column to the left, click on "hotel revues". Good advice from users. The prices may be different, though, due to the change of seasons.
