Greg, <BR>Spanair is a low cost carrier within Spain competing with Iberia and AirEuropa; it also flys a non-stop Dulles to Madrid. I'm taking 3 one-way flights on Spanair this summer from Madrid to Santiago, Oviedo and Bilbao. The price was right-well under $100 for each one way; it came out to be cheaper than the $99 Europe by Air coupons (airport departure tax isn't included in these coupons)which aren't sold in Europe (must be purchased before you leave). Most reports (but not all) on the Dulles-Madrid flight from Fodorites have been positive. I try to avoid flying Iberia when I can. <BR>www.spanair.com

What is wrong with Iberia? I have a flight from Malaga to Mallorca in September. Are they a bad airline?

Marie, <BR>If you do a text search here on Iberia, you'll find over a dozen threads-plenty of horror stories, few satisfied customers. I've personally had bad experiences on both internal and intl flights.

My husband and I flew Spanair between Dulles and Madrid two years ago and were very pleased with them. The flights were on time (actually, we arrived in Madrid ahead of schedule), the service was pleasant, the food not bad for an airline, and the fare far less than any we found on domestic carriers.

We flew Spanair to Barcelona via Madrid about 2 years ago and were also very pleased with them. I was hesitant at first because the flight was so inexpensive and was afraid that we were going to get what we paid for. However, we could not have been more wrong. The service was excellent and the food was actually good. The flight attendants couldn't do enough for the passengers. I definitely recommend it.

Greg, <BR>I agree with the rest. I've flown all three Spainish airlines and like Spanair the best.

My family and I flew by Spanair last October to Tenerife. No problems at all with the flights, good service, good food and friendly staff. The only problem we had was on the return journey. Four hour delay in Tenerife, herded from one gate to another like cattle, (via announcements & notice boards) and not a member of staff to be found anywhere. <BR> <BR>Nonetheless, we are using them again in June to go back to Tenerife. Better luck this time I hope. <BR>

We flew SpanAir last July out of Dulles tofrom Santiago de Compostella. We had no problem from Dulles to Madrid. We had many problems on both the trip from Madrid to Santiago and from Santiago to Madrid. My guess is Iberia is able to "jerk their chain" on flights inside Spain. <BR> <BR>Hope you have better luck and a wonderful trip.

Well, as said in my earlier message, we did fly again with SpanAir in June, and guess what ? we were delayed again. We had a delay of over 2.5 hours in Cardiff (Wales) airport, no courtesy drinks, no vouchers, in fact, nothing at all. The flight itself was o.k. The aeroplanes are a bit dated, and it was a bit bumpy, but saying that, I managed to sleep most of the way. Flew back with Air 2000, what a difference - modern plane, more leg-room, better food, entertainment (sadly lacking in any shape or form with SpanAir) and we actually left Tenerife 10 minutes early! <BR> <BR>I probably will use SpanAir again, for the price only.
