Spain Train Reservations... a must?
 

Hi,

My fiancee and I have rail passes for Spain and we are doing the following trips...

Seville-Granada
Granada-Cordoba
Cordoba-Madrid
Madrid-Barcelona

Do we need to make reservations for these at the ticket counter? If so how far in advance and how much does this usually run? What is the worst that could happen if we don't? Just curious...:)

Yes there are mandatory whether the train is full or not on all those trains i am fairly sure.

Easy to get IME with a railpass but it seems you must go up to a ticket window

but should be able to do all at once in Seville or any Spanish train station

i suggest you have the train number and time and the type of railpass clearly printed out as well as 1st or 2nd class and 2 people - go to www.rense.es the Spanish rail website and print out this info so the window clerk will have no language barrier and then just has to put the train # into the computer to do it - If he/she has to look up all that info they may be less likely to do several at once even though they can and do, esp if there is a long line

i do not think you can make seat reservations with a pass on renfe.es but not sure.

The Cordoba-Madrid is via AVE and there are lots of these a day so worst may be you would have to go a bit earlier or later if the one you need is booked

(If you have first class pass reservations are much more available, but in 2nd should not be a problem IMO and IME)
