Spain still loves Franco?

Read about a big pro-Franco demonstration last Saturday in the Valle de los Caidos. This is really shocking and I really think its time for Spain to move on. 1936 was a long time ago.

Of course he's a hero. It was only confused intellectuals of New York who didn't understand the war and still don't. The Communists were butchers who murdered their own side. Franco brought peace and stabality.

Tell that to the sons of confederate vets in the south who refuse to let the flag issue die!! They really need to get over it, they lost the war and nothing will ever, ever change that fact. Maybe we need to start a GET OVER IT thread. Fodor's is probably going to delete it anyway...

Franco is alive and well and in hiding just waiting to come out and make the trains run on time.

This is a very prodemocratic country,
not a whole lot of proFranco people nowadays, but there are some. After all, it´s not 1936 we are talking about... that´s when it got started !
He governed until 1975, and that´s not so far back.
For some people he is just a symbol of a more conservative Spain, just a reaction to the liberalism that exists nowadays, and the apparent lack of security, drugs, loss of values and religion, etc. that seems to exist all over the world.

But a huge part of proFrancos are ultrarightwing or older people or neonazi style youngsters.
