Spain Rioja/Basque recommendations
Hello! We'll be taking a little drive from San Sebastian to Barcelona in June and have 2 days to spend in the Rioja/Basque region. My husband and I are interested in staying at an agritourism or rurual house, preferrably near Laguardia as that's my #1 must see. Does anyone have recommendations for a nice, inexpensive ($50-$70/night) place?
Thanks for your help! Laura |

Dear lauraduff:
We stayed at Villa de Abalos last June for only 1 night. I wish we could have stayed longer. I loved this place. Very charming and the town, although small is very cute. http://www.hotelvilladeabalos.com/ Here is a link to our trip report. Warning: very long & boring, but it may help. http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34828166 MY |
You can check Nekatur (http://www.nekatur.net/) and Top Rural (http://en.toprural.com/) to see what's available.
Villa de Abalos may be out of your price range. There are also three small hotels in Laguardia, as well as the Villa de Laguardia (with a pool). |
We had lunch last week in Laguardia at the Irish Pub. I know, Irish pub, we didn't want to stop here, but it was the only place that had an outdoor table!
Both of us had 2 glasses of the homemade Riojo wine and an excellent tortilla and the bill was 5€ total! You'll dine well here! |
Everyone in Laguardia has "homemade" wine, but a wine and tortilla? What time of the day was this?
|
Maybe at lunch ? Or in the afternoon ?

Yes, it was at lunch. We were driving from Pamplona to Bilbao and drove through the beautiful Rioja region, stoppping for a bit in Laguardia. I was very surprised at the lack of outdoor seating for lunch. The Irish Pub had 2 tables, no others were to be found in town.
