Spain rail ticket experts--question separate or one through ticket

We are going to Spain in November and the train schedules and tickets appear to be available now so we can advance/discount purchase.

We will travel from Alicante to Seville with the first leg Avlo just $10 (9 left) and the second leg AVE. If I ask for a through ticket, I am only offered Basico nonrefundable $55 for second leg or Elige Confort $74 but if I book as two separate tickets, I can pay $65 for semi-flexible Elige second class instead of Confort or go fully flexible at $95.

Is there any disadvantage to my booking the two as separate tickets so I can get the semi-flexible Elige on the AVE ticket? Then if something did change our plans, I'd lose the $10 on the Avlo but could possibly change or get % refund on the second class fare on the AVE.

Thx
