There isn't any foolproof way to prevent pickpocketing, but there are definitely ways to minimize the chances of being targeted. And that's really all you can do, just like with any of life's risks. People have given a lot of great advice. And for those who don't live in urban areas, or where pickpocketing is common, it can be a bit of a learning curve.
