Spain itinerary suggestions
Have aready been to Madrid, Toledo, Seville and Granada. We need to pick up our daughter in Granada after she finishes a Spanish immersion program and then we will all go to Barcelona for 4-5 days.
We will probably have a car for about a week before we pick her up. Suggestions? |
are you traveling in the summer?
|
Early August-our daughter is 16.

I don't know if Northern Spain would be a problem ( since you are picking up your daughter in Granada) , but that would be my choice. The North is very popular with the locals - make reservations!.
We liked Santander and the area, many here love San Sebastian and Galicia. You can probably fly to Granada from a number of places in the North. Andalusia is too hot in August (for my taste). |
Santiago de Compostela and environs.
|
I live in Galicia and normally thoroughly recommend the area. But seeing that you will be in Andalusia and you only have a week then stay in that area as there is much to see and do.
|
I am going to be studying in a Spanish immersion program in either Madrid (or possibly Salamanca), so now we will only have 3-4 days between one of those two locations and getting our daughter in Granada. We could be happy to drive, fly, or take the train. We do not want to go to the coast.

Does anyone remember the inscription over the entrance to the library at the University of Salamanca?
Please note: I am not referring to Aula Fray Luis de León who, after being arrested in the University during the Spanish Inquisition, returned to his pulpit after spending five years imprisoned and said "As I was saying yesterday..." Thank you in advance. |
Remember that it is usually hotter than heck in Madrid and even more so in Andalusia in August...so much so that even the locals hate it. I mean UNBEARABLE hot...the whole gov't in Madrid moves to northern Spain ( San Sebastian) in August to try and escape the heat.( Thus that area is overly crowded too).
To top off this insanity, it is high season in Andalusia as many northern Europeans come there for sun as they tend to be cold and sun starved even in summer ( we spent last summer in UK etc so now understand..their summer is colder than Andalusia's winter). I am in Barcelona at the moment ( have spent the last 3 winters in Andalusia & have traveled most of Spain quite thoroughly by land on our open ended world tour). Galicia and Asturias and the Pyrenees are the best places to be in August in Spain IMHO. Everyone in Europe goes on holiday in August, so it is pretty crowded everywhere ( we have been here a month and watch it grow more crowded each day..so we head out next week). You might enjoy the Costa Brava near Barcelona. I just wrote a post about it with pictures that give you the idea of the beauty there: 10 Best Costa Brava Secret Gems! http://www.soultravelers3.com/2009/0...ems-spain.html Good luck! |
Aduchamp:
You may refer to the one that says (excuse the translation): "There's excommunication reserved to its Sanctity against anyone who steals, distracts or in any other way alienates any book, parchment or paper from this library; and he cannot be absolved until ha has perfectly restored it". You can see the original here: http://www.artesdellibro.com/2008/01...rvada-a-su.php I have a copy of it in my own library; but I must tell you, it does not work with my wife, my kids and their friends.... |
Aduchamp:
Sorry;but I just realized that the link I put in my previous answer does not lead to the original of Salamanca, but to a copy in Mexico. Here you have a good link: http://lamazarcuta.blogspot.com/2009...libros-de.html |
