Sorry, I have no suggestions ... as PP said., major cities in Spain are pricy
In some cities there are so called hostels - it is not lodging that we associate with the word, but just
less expensive hotels.

Not all hotels will have next years rates up. On websites like Booking they show up as begin occupied. I would wait until booking hotels until the new year. Trains cannot be booked that far in advance either.

It might be a good idea to start a new thread for hotel suggestions
- centrally located hotels that offer rooms with twin beds and breakfast for 75 euros are not easy to find.

No, no, not true that rates are not yet posted. Booking.com has rates posted for their hotels for Spring, and again, I suggest you start looking now. Do not wait until after the New Year. You are going in late April, right? That is a busy time in Spain.

IME, some hotels will have given booking.com their reservation info already; others will wait. I agree with Sassafrass that you should start looking now. Be mindful of the cancellation policies. Then keep monitoring to see if acceptable rooms at lower rates become available.

Thanks to all of you. We'll start looking now! Also, we may try a new post for hotels

what are we missing?

Tons, assuredly. But Spain isn't worth just one trip.

@BigRuss... you are so right. Even without being there, I know we're not scratching the surface of Spain - or given our short stops, in each of our destinations. The question really was directed at the logistics of the proposed itinerary. I welcome your suggestions for "must see" spots in places we're going and/or hotels!
