Spain itinerary- comment please!!
Hi everyone. I was hoping for lots of comments regarding my itinerary to Spain: Land in Seville on a Saturday afternoon. Tourist around Saturday and Sunday and then pick up rental car on Monday. Drive to Jerez (do Sherry tour??), Drive through Arcos de la Frontera (See view, anything else?), arrive in Ronda and stay there Monday night.
Tuesday: Explore Ronda (views and ???), then drive to Granada to maybe see Alhambra at night. Stay in Granada.
Wednesday: See Alhambra during daytime too? Explore gardens. Stay another night in Granada.
Thursday: Leave for Cordoba. Tour Mezquita and ??. Spend the night.
Friday: Drive to Seville and return car. Tour Seville. Last night stay in Seville.
Saturday: to airport in morning.
What do you think? Enough time in Seville? Should we change to 1 night in Granada or no nights in Cordoba, and just do Mezquita as a quick stop driving from Granada to Seville? Comments please!! Pick it apart!

I would stay in Cordoba overnight if you can - it really has a charming Juderia - and after the day-trippers leave the night atmosphere is wonderful. The Mezquita is fascinating - we spent quite a bit of time there just soaking up the atmosphere.

Fully agree with previous poster. Córdoba deserves more time than just a quick visit of the Mezquita. The Judería is very typical. I even found Córdoba more Andalucian than Sevilla.
Arcos de la Frontera: allow a few hours for strolling around in town.

We drove through Granada and just spent the day at the Alhambra and part of the evening and went on to the coast for the night. But I wish I'd spent one night there but not two. If time is limited I agree with the other posters--two nights in Cordoba. It's very romantic. And the Mezquita will take you away.....

Hi Steve,

I just wanted to encourage you to do both the night tour of the Alhambra and the day tour. At night it's just magical (I think that when we went there were only about 6 other people visiting it) but only one or two buildings are open. There's a website with information about advance purchase of tickets (possibly www.sol.com?) which I'm sure you can find by doing a search.

And you just can't get a full sense of how magnificent the structures and gardens are without access to them and without sunlight. So, by all means, do both.

I don't really know if you have enough time in Seville. I spent three nights there and it wasn't enough time. I just loved wandering around that city; it's absolutely lovely. Be sure to go to the Parque Maria Luisa in Seville.

Have a great trip.

Kathleen

You've got alot packed into a week but it definately sounds doable. I spent 3 nights in Sevilla and just like Kathleen, don't feel like I got to spend enough time there.

Jerez was a great day trip. We visited the Gonzalez-Byass bodega. It was very well organized, a little touristy, but I was very impressed - they really made it fun! Maribel posted some very good directions on how to get around Jerez. If you do a search on Jerez or Sherry you can probably find it. The directions saved us alot of time.

I absolutely loved Arcos. Most people with disagree with me, but I liked Arcos more than Ronda. I would definately plan to spend some time walking around Arcos. You may also want to consider cutting a day in Granada and spending an extra day in Ronda (or Arcos) so you can drive the route of the Pueblos Blancos, visiting towns like Zahara and Grazalema. The scenery is breathtaking and the white villages are true Andalusia. I'd definately recommend the night tour of the Alhambra, but I believe it's not offered year round and I don't know when you are visiting. I visited Cordoba as a day-trip from Madrid to Sevilla. I was able to visit the Mezquita and Alcazar and walk around the Juderia in a 6 hour visit. It was, however, a beautiful little city and it would have been nice to spend the night.

I hope this helps with your trip....keep us posted.

You have some problems:

1. Seville in a day and a half (arrival day is always a half day) is far too little.

2. There is no horse show on Monday. It's held once a week on Thursday.

3. Spend more time Ronda. The Turkish bath, majestic mansions, many unusual small museums, bullring and church will keep you plenty busy. There are also some caves nearby. It was the highlight of our trip.

4. Don't stay in Cordoba. Instead, drop the car in Cordoba and take the AVE back to Seville (45 minute ride). An evening in Seville rates far ahead of an evening in Cordoba.
