End of Capital One policy of no foreign transaction fees

They are ending what made this a great program. In addition, unless you have certain types of checking accounts (like one requiring $5,000 balance) you will now pay $2 ATM fees as well.
I not only have a mailer from Capital One about this, I've talked to the branch manager

There are a few other banks out there that still offer no foreign transaction fees. We use Barclay's and Amex.

Hyatt is a credit card, not a debit card. I want to avoid fees on ATM withdrawals as well

I think this pertains to those with bank accounts with Capital One.

The Capital One Visa Credit Card still does NOT charge foreign transaction fees and annual fees.

Oh, the title scared me. So the credit card still has no foreign transaction fee, right?

For ATMs I use a Charles Schwab check card, no foreign transaction fee and they rebate any fees for using an ATM.

Go to www.capitalone.com and under SEARCH put in foreign credit card transaction fees.
Information is clear....no fees. We are CapitalOne credit card holders and have received no
information reg any foreign transaction fees. If you received a letter from CapitalOne reg fees,
WHAT is the DATE of WHEN the fees go into effect...???? Thanks for replies on this.

Sorry, I have a debit card and I'm told all debit cards will now have foreign transaction fees of 3% and $2 per ATM transaction

Aleta, time to dump Capital One and join a credit union. My credit union offers 6 free non-network ATM withdrawals per month (including those in Europe) and only a 1% foreign transaction fee (Visa's fee). (ATMs in Europe do not typically charge ATM transaction fees - I've never been charged such a fee on any of my trips.) Many other credit unions have similar policies.

I don't mind paying a 1% transaction fee. If I spend $2000 in cash on a trip to Europe, that's only $20. Big deal.

I got a Hyatt Chase Visa this year on a promotion (no annual fee first year + two free hotel room nights) and this card has no foreign transaction fees. I'll probably use this card in Europe next month only because I have it, but it's not a benefit that seems worth paying for to me. I'm sure I won't have this card in a year.

My credit union DEBIT card charges only a 1% conversion fee ("foreign transaction fee," passed along from Visa) and no ATM per-use fees for first six withdrawals. ATMs in Europe don't charge per-use fees.

I have a Capital One credit card. It charges no foreign transaction fees. I have received no communication from Capital One changing this.

I also have a Capital One High Yield Money Market account in which I maintain a balance which earns interest. I opened it specifically to get the card you may request which can be used as an ATM card with no foreign transaction fees. I have received no communication from Cap One changing this.

I hope someone clarifies this, as I will be in Europe in October, and if the policy has changed I still have time to change to an institution that does not charge these scandalous fees.

nukesafe - I also have a ATM Capital One card thru my Capital One High Yield Money market (online acct) account. One my account they do charge if you do not use their ATMS. I know this is true because I thought there was no charge and used the card locally at a bank other than Capital One and I got the $2 fee deducted from my account. I called and asked about fees for use of the ATM card. I was told they do not reimburse any fees charged if you used an ATM other than a Capital One ATM.

As of July our Capital One credit card was not charging a foreign transaction fee. I have received nothing in the mail from them this month stating any change.

I find all the different types of Capital One accounts confusing -- u can't even make a deposit at their brick and mortar banks to your online accounts.

I pay a 1% conversion fee on my Credit Union credit card, but I get one percent back on all transactions. No fee on my ATM card.

My Capitol One credit card has no foreign fees.

I also have Chase Sapphire Plus which has no foreign fees and gives 2X points for purchases for dining and travel, two of my favorite expenditures.

My bank, Wells Fargo, gives me two foreign ATM withdrawals for free.

Here we go again...

My Cap One Visa credit card has no foreign transaction fees. Neither does my Priority Rewards Visa card.

If you have a High Yield Cap One checking account, they will reimburse you up to somewhere around $18/month for any ATM fees that you are charged for using any other bank's ATM machine (Europe included).

I don't use my ATM card as a Debit card.... would rather use my credit card to receive the associated reward points.

Correction -- I have a Capital One Rewards Money Market (does not reimburse ATM fees) not the High Yield Money Market.
