Spain in 1 week with kids
Hi All,
I am trying to use some FF miles and am planning a trip sometime in August if possible to visit Spain. We can only spare 1 week and we will have our 8 and 6 year old with us. They are excellent travellers so I'm not too worried about travelling with them.
I was checking out some itineraries online but is this feasible?
Fly into Barcelona for 2 days
Fly to Granada and see Ronda, Seville, Cordoba for 4-5 days
Train to Madrid for 2 days
Fly out back to NJ.
Am I missing any important areas that the kids would love to see like the windmills? I am just beginning to research this.
Thanks for all your input.

I belive that you are trying to do too much. This is a common problme with all of us whne we travle to Europe. You should decide on either northern (Madrid,Barcleona) or southern Spain. Either will take more than just te 7 days that you have and it would be a much better trip.

In august with kids, the south will be too hot to enjoy during the day at the same time I think you are trying to cover a large amount of places.
My suggestion will be to concentrate in one area, Barcelona and surroundings including some beach days.

You should be aware that in the south in August temps are likely to be over 100, many places dont have AC and things to do in the afternoon (except swiming in your hotel pool) are pretty limited.
Also - you're trying to cover way too much territory in limited time - even for adults - never mind little kids who may well get cranky at being so hot and not getting dinner until 9pm.

Don;t know where your miles are good - but in August with kids I would do either a week in Switzerland or someplace in Scandinavia - Stockholm for preference. Great weather and tons of interesting things to do - as well as room/facilities and weather for kids to do some runnng around.

Paris has lots of things for kids to see/do - but again - many hotels don;t have AC and it can be hot - think NYC or DC in the summer.
Amsterdam is probably a little cooler - and also has things for kids - but there is the canal issue. If you kids are good swimmers and you won't worry about them falling in - so you don;t have to hang onto them.

If you want to do Spain, my all time favorite city is Barcelona. We just got back from 2 weeks in Spain and spent 1 week in Barcelona. I would recommend Barcelona for a week and consider an apt. with airconditioning. Not sure what your budget is, but we stayed in this apt that was great. http://www.vrbo.com/global/siteFrame...turnurl=/49766 I think it would be a great size for a family of 4 and there is so much to do, including the beach at Sitges (very quick train ride) or Montserrat for a day in the mountains. Have fun where ever you go!

Hi. We've brought our young kids to several European countries, albeit not in August. when we were in Spain, we hit all of those cities mentioned, but what the kids remember enjoying is the beach.
Have you considered London. We spent 8 days there with our 2, 5 and 8 year old and they LOVED it. There was so much to do there for the kids that we could have stayed longer. They really enjoyed the art museums that had child orirented tours in english. They also loved the Princess Diana playground in Kensington. August would probably be a great month to be in England. Have fun!

Thanks. I put some FF tix on hold. Arrives Amsterdam Aug 26 morning, Aug 30 to London, a few days there and then return home. We have family in London so it will be real easy with the kids.
I wanted to get Brussels in, is it possible to do a day trip from Amsterdam or is not worth trying to squeeze in.
Thanks.
