Spain-Goyesca Fair
 

Anyone have any experience with Goyeasca Fair held I believe in Ronda? When how to obtain tickets for bullfights? Weather that time of year? Thanks. Trying to plan trip to Spain this year or maybe wait until 2009. Trying to figure where best corridas to attend.

In the last years this bullfight has become very popular and chances are you'll not be able to buy tickets any way (not even online)but re-sale at the gate of the ring on days previous to the fight, and at incredibly high prices. A couple years ago were 4.000 Eur, last year from 2.000 EUR. Anyway there are other shows in Ronda those days such as a horse-carriage exhibition, and you'll surely enjoy being there.

Is it correct that during the Feria Goyesca there's only one corrida goyesca, on Saturday, (the other one being bullfighters on horseback-de rejones) along with the novilladas?

We've thought about going some yr. just to witness the carriage parades, costumes of the Damas Goyescas and to get caught up in the festive atmosphere. The corrida we can see on tv.

But our host in Ronda warned us of the difficulty of booking a room for that weekend, even a year in advance not to mention getting tickets, even with major connections. (Maybe if you were intimate friends of the Rivera Ordoñez clan! :-? )

If your DH (referring to your other post) has his heart set on attending a major Feria, probably the easiest and least costly, from the standpoint of securing tixs, lodging, plus plenty of museum and monument visits and interesting day trips for the whole family, would Madrid's San Isidro from mid May to mid June.

Four thousand euros for a single bullfight ticket? Yes pricey, Josele. It better be real good.

The price is not 4000 euros/ticket, but 4000 for an abono ticket, the entire series. The typical tendido sombra seat (lower lever shade seat) should be around 260 t0 300 euros each.

All I know is, for those prices I would want to see pom poms girls in the air, free drinks, cuban cigars, a mid-fight foot massage, etc :) And perhaps the Torero fighting the bull with bare hands with some serious body slamming like in NFL. Just kidding :)

Maribel, How did you know I was going to post something seven hours after you! You obviously have a crystal ball (any idea what the Citibank and Bank of America stocks will do by year end?:) ). Between your amazing guides/reports and now this ability, I just continue to be impressed.

It seems crazy, but in recent years it has become a fashion to be let seen at the Goyesca, thus the high re-sale prices. Many posh people who probably get bored, but a must-be. Two years ago I tried to get tickets for a fellow Fodor's poster, but it was impossible. Simply you cannot book them. The corrida in itself is an ordinary one, only fighters are dressed in Goya's times style; I prefer actual dresses anyway. Ronda is crowded those days, and a great ambience. Years ago the carriage show (in the morning) was even free, no longer, but you can watch them outside entering and exiting the ring. I go every year as I have relatives in Ronda and it is my niece's birthday the very day, and the city is really packed, cars parked by the roads, even.

Certainly, Confy, with that money I can think on ZILLIONS of things better to do than attending a bullfight (goyesca or not). Well, I haven't think in pom pom girls either...

Maybe I would feed the fat cat with more paella...

4000 euros would be the re-sale price for the abono tickets, if they are decent seats. Two years ago the tendido sombra abonos in Sevilla went for 4800 euros through the ticket mafia.

Maybe you are right , Robert...but I can see some really fanatic aficionados paying 4000 for a single ticket. Some Barcelona FC fans payed 8000 for a ticket to see the final of the Champions League two years ago in Paris where the team was playing.

Of course. Sometimes it is because we are human and occasionally think from our hearts than our heads (until the head starts thinking again). And for some people, culo veo, culo quiero, may play a role. :)
