Spain/France/Italy Help

My wife and I have a wedding to attend in Santander, Spain, on September 6. We are also taking this trip as our belated honeymoon.

We have 15 days (starting Sept 1).

We have been to Rome, Florence, and Venice in Italy and have LOVED that trip. Now we are not sure where to go. Can you help? Here are the options:

-We have to fly into Barcelona or Madrid so we can cover those cities prior to going to Santander (where the wedding is). From there is where things get complicated: Do we go to:

a) Paris for 7 days?
b) The south of France for 7 days?
c) The south of Italy for 7 days?
d) Back to Barcelona or Madrid (wherever we did not fly into) and then a, b, or c?

I've read a posting on how much better the south of France is compared to Paris, but I guess it depends on what you want to do. We are not expecting to spend 2 days visiting the Louvre. But neither are we expecting to spend 2 days laying on a beach doing nothing.

Any recommendations? If I missed any information please reply to this post and I'll update it.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

Much as I love Italy, since you've been there already and time doesn't permit going to both Italy and France in the time available, why not France?

From Barcelona, I would think a car trip along the French riviera would be lovely in September, with maybe a few days in Provence. Then pick up the TGV in Avignon and zip to Paris, spending the last 3-4 days in Paris and flying home from there. Paris is high on many people's lists as their favorite city.

Leslie - thanks for your reply. How long would you allocate for a scenic drive from Barcelona to Provence? Is 3-4 days enough?

Well, I'd give it at least 4 days. It's about an 8 hour drive straight from Barcelona to Nice. But you'll still be a bit rushed.

Since you'll be in Santander on the north coast (rather than Barcelona) you could also go north to Bordeaux and Dordogne regions before heading to Paris.

I just returned from a 2 week trip to Spain and I vote for northern Spain. Santander is beautiful. So is San Sebastian. Although I did not make it to Guernica, others in my family did, and recommend it. I also spent 3 days in Bilbao and 3 days in Pamplona. The Guggenheim alone was "worth it". Northern Spain is very green and when I was there it was not too touristy. If you're interested, I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Good luck.
