Spain during Holy Week - advice please.
 

Second attempt.
We are planning a honeymoon during Holy Week. My fiance wants to book one or two nights and wing it the rest of the trip. We will be driving from Malaga and want to stay in small out the way villages in reasonable B&Bs or hostels. (We have picked up many ideas from previous postings) I know the cities are very busy. Do you think we will have problems in the small towns? Thank you!

If you stay in hostels, are you willing to stay in dorms on your honeymoon? Private rooms in hostels are often booked up many months in advance.

No dorms! We have found several nice hostels that have private rooms. Thanks for the tip that they book up so far in advance.

Don't even think of travelling in the Andalusia area of Spain, especially, during Holy Week (Semana Sancta), unless your idea of fun is spending the whole day trying top find a place to sleep that night.

Having said that, it's a fabulous time to be there. Be prepared for traffic jams and general chaos, though.

I'd forget about winging it during holy week in Andalucía if I were you and your fiancé. Holy week if far too popular to be taking that kind of chance unless you consider winging it as staying in one of the 4 and 5 star properties which will be about the only places that will have any rooms available during Easter. Instead, you might want to consider checking out Ronda, which has a great holy week celebration. It?s a lot smaller than Sevilla?s celebration, but we found it more personal. There's also Úbeda, which is a very interesting village to be in during holy week as the entire village turns out for the procession and the Parador is a great place to spend a few nights, especially if you have a room overlooking the square. You could also try Baeza and Jaén, but why leave Malaga during holy week? They have a very passionate celebration in Malaga during Easter.

We had a VERY hard time finding a room in Ronda early during Holy Week- Monday/Tuesday (we were winging it).

After that we had to sit on the phone for about an hour and call at least twenty hotels before we could make a reservation in Granada for Wednesday/Thursday. At that point we were considering all price ranges that would allow us to have a private bathroom and we still had a hard time! Thank God we were staying with friends from Friday to the following Monday.

Make reservations, this is not a good time to wing it! Enjoy

Thanks everyone that's what I figured. I had a heart to heart with my guy last night and he agreed with me. Your posts just confirm my worries. We are excited about experiencing the celebrations and have already found great places available in Ronda, Benaojan, Arcos De La Frontera. So we'll make our choices well ahead of time. Thanks for the tip about Malaga.
