Spain driving to Granada
 

Hello
we are planning on driving from home (SW France) down to Granada just after Easter. So far I am thinking:
Zaragoza 1 night
Toledo 2 nights
Granada 4 nights
Ronda 2 nights
then return leg:
Cordoba 2 nights
Maybe Salamanca ?
Home
We're not party-people and just want to enjoy the amazing Spanish lifestyle, culture and food without being in the biggest cities. We have an elderly dog who also comes along on our travels. The only plca on our list that we've already visited is Salamanca, and we've also been to Seville, Valebcia, Barcelona.
From Ronda I thought we could see come of the pueblos blancos, but otherwise our preference is to get to a place, park the car up and travel on foot until we move onto our next stop.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Looks good to me.
You might add Cáceres (not to be mixed up with Cacares on the Costa del Sol) and Segovia on your way up north. We really liked these towns, although Salamanca was our absolute favorite.

Casares is the town on the Costa del Sol.

I love Salamanca and was a student there back in the day and just spent 4. wonderful nights there, driving from my Madrid home.
From Madrid it´s a 2.15 hour drive northwest, through Avila.
But it's quite a bit of an outlier to the north west on your direct route back to SW France. But perhaps you have the time to spare to make this detour.
From Córdoba your far more direct route to your home in SW France would be to Burgos, (a lovely town with a gorgeous Gothic cathedral), then Vitoria, then Donostia-San Sebastián to Irún at the border and on....

But... maybe you've done that route several times (or maybe many times) and are looking for a unique detour to the western section of Castilla-León with plenty of time to spare, In that case, I would spend a minimum of 2 nights in Salamanca, as the Plaza Mayor is magical at night...it glows. The city is simply beautiful.

Our trip started in Argelès-Gazost

Segovia, Avila (will be cold) and Salamanca (ditto) are indeed a beautiful drive if you want to venture that far west off the direct route and discover a part of Castilla-León that you haven't´seen, if you do have the time. Segovia certainly deserves an overnight, while Avila can be seen easily as a day trip to walk the walls (3/4th of them are walkable, there is a fee and it probably will be cold and windy) and Salamanca, I feel, deserves a night or better still, 2, but it appears that you've already visited. The Salamanca monuments are all built of a harmonious local sandstone and beautiful to behold, as you may have already experienced.
