Spain(Andalucia) or Italy(Amalfi Coast & Capri)
 

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and are planning to go on holiday to either Spain or Italy, areas per the message title, from March 30 - April 7th. Which would you prefer?

I would like to rent a car and drive around as I don't like to be on someone else's schedule, so, I am assuming that those places are conducive to driving.

Our biggest concern: Are there a lot of things to do at both locations?

Well - Andalusia is mostly cities - there is coastline but the time you're there may well be too cold for swimming - but good for golf or tennis. But you can see Sevilla, Crodoba, Granada, the white towns - a fascinating area and unique in europe.

Amalfi Coast is really a beach resort area - and the weather will definitley not be conducive to beaches/swimming. You can, of course, see Pompeii and tour a couple of cute little towns. But some hotels and restauarants may not yet be open for the season, ferries not at full schedule and Capri certainly not at it's best. I wouldn;t do the Amalfi coast before mid-May at the earliest.

That is almost exactly the time I've been to Andalucia 5 or 6 times in the past, always in the vicinity of Granada, renting a house in a village south of there and doing day trips to different towns along the coast, into the Alpujarra mountains, and over to Seville and Ronda for overnight trips. I love it there. (Have never been to Italy, planning to go there sometime next year.) The driving there is fine EXCEPT for in the center of the old cities or the little villages (tiny, narrow, wind-y streets, no place to park -- dump the car and walk walk walk). Great places to sit in cafes people-watching, fabulous cafe con leche, friendly people, Moorish architecture. Take out a couple of travel books from the library or browse the bookstore travel section and see what appeals to you. More than enough to do in 3 times as much time as you have!

I've been to Andalucia a few times but have never been to the Amalfi Coast, so really can't compare. Just want to agree with the previous posters about Andalucia--there's enough to do there for several trips. I know I plan to return.
