Spain and Portugal Trip Help
My family is thinking about taking a trip to Spain and Portugal.
We will be leaving from Cincinnati on the 11/20. We are thinking about arriving in Barcelona and spending a few days there. Then take the AVE down to Madrid and spend a few days there. But, we want to also see Cordoba, Grenada, and Seville.. How do you recommend we get there? Also, then we would have to fly, or take the train back from Seville to Lisbon, if there are better recommendations, please suggest. Surprisingly, the multi-city fly ordeal is cheap. We only want to spend 1.5-2 days in Lisbon and will go home from there. We have 10 days. We need some guidance on how to schedule this :) Please suggest ways of travel, places of arrival, or anything else that we should do. Thanks for your help :) |
With only 10 days, I don't think you can meaningfully visit all these places. I recommend that you get some good guidebooks (or spend some time with a few in your local library), identify the things you most want to see in each location, note their opening/closing times, and mark them on a calendar. Then pencil in your transportation, add some time on either side (for getting to/from the train/bus station or whatever, checking in/out, packing/unpacking, getting oriented, etc.). Then see how things fit together.

Six cities in 10 days might not be the best itinerary.

As above
Trains and planes are the best Of your cities you can visit Saville from Cordoba and the other way around so do only one stay and a day trip. Madrid in Novemeber will be a bit chilly compared to the other cities (it is pretty high up) |
Do you have 10 days total or 10 days on the ground?
Either way, it is not enough time for all those places and if it is 10 days total, so probably 8 on the ground, that would not be enough time even for all the places in Spain. These are pretty much minimum times. This is 11 nights just in Spain. This is already pretty rushed, but you could rush it a bit more by spending only one night in Granada - that is it. Barcelona - 3 nts, 2 days Madrid - 3 nts, 2 days (one to see a couple of sights in Madrid, one for a day trip to Toledo or Segovia) Seville - 3 nts, 2 days Granada - 2 nts, 1 day Cordoba - visit on the way to Seville from Madrid or on the way to Granada from Seville. Fast train between Madrid and Barcelona and between Madrid and Seville. Train between Seville and Granada and between Granada and Madrid, there are also busses. Consider time involved getting from hotel to train station, train time and getting to next hotel. The train may be only a couple of hours, but the whole trip might be 3 or 4. Just keep in mind when planning travel time. |
fly to lisbon from sevilla.. usually 50E in winter on TAP. also check vueling and iberia
