Spain & Morocco
 

Greetings -

Two weeks with a family of four (10 & 7 Year old kids) starting in Barcelona and ending in Casablanca (by car and ferry). We know it's too much in two weeks and were thinking:
Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Cordova, Seville, Tangier, Rabat, Marrakesh, Fez then Casablanca. Love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I take it this would be your first trip to Spain and Morocco.

Unless all you want to do is spend all of your time on the road, you might want to reconsider, breaking this up into two different trips instead of one.

I agree with Robert. I'd do a Spain trip and then a Morocco trip. Or cut out Barcelona and Valencia and then one or two of your Morocco destinations.

That seems like way too much, especially with kids. Can't speak to Morocco or Barcelona, but I went to Spain w/my 10yo last year. For reference here is our 12 day itinerary (it was approx 10 hrs of train time) :
1 Arr Madrid travel to Cordoba
2 Cordoba
3-7 Seville
8-9 Granada
9-12 Madrid (side trip Segovia)

Madrid, Cordoba, Seville are all on the high speed rail line. If you spent some time in Madrid you could easily do a day trip to Segovia or Toledo. The Alhambra is amazing and would be hard to miss. We never made it to the white towns/Ronda but wish we had time...
Although I really wanted to do Barca it was just too far off since we were going in/out of Madrid. Valencia looked interesting, but from my research it seemed that there were other more important locations to visit first (unless of course Barca is a for sure for you).

Way too many places in way too little time - even for adults. With - 2 kids - the trip will be sheer hell. (Just think of all those hours of "are we there yet".) Also - you need to allow for the fact that dining hours are so different than in the US - this can make things even more difficult for kids.

From what I heard, skip Rabat and Casablanca. Meknès is definitely worth a visit. We did a round trip flying in and out of Marrakesh. Took the train to Meknès, then to Fez, and the bus back to Marrakesh.

14 days - 10 destinations? Not going to work. The kids will be zombies by Day 3. Save Morocco for another trip, and when you do go, skip Tangier and Casablanca, maybe Rabat too. Visit Marrakesh, Fez, Meknes, Agadir, and Essouira and the Atlas Mountains.

I am one of those that embraces traveling and do not mind fast moving pace. You can easily do this trip in 14 days and hit the main attractions in most cities. You may limit the visit in some cities but it is easily doable. We just did Spain in 6 nights and visited 7 cities of which we slept in 4 of them. I felt that we saw plenty in those cities. The trip report is coming shortly.

For spain I would recommend

2 nights in Barcelona then fly to Granada
1 night in Granada then drive through Cordoba for a 3 hour visit of Mezquita and then continue driving to Ronda
1 night in Ronda and then afternoon drive to Sevilla
2 nights in Sevilla then fly to Morocco

This route makes you skip Valencia, but something's gotta give. And if you decrease your stay in Morrocco then you may add a night somewhere else, or you may add a night around the southern cost of spain (Tarifa) in case you wanted to get to Morocco on a ferry.

If you know it's too much for 2 weeks then you're correct. You could easily spend 2 weeks just in Andalucia, especially with 2 younger kids. 2 weeks for Barcelona & Andalucia is workable but it's way too much trying to include Morocco. I wouldn't attempt the trip (even with Valencia excluded) as a solo (and seasoned) traveler. With kids this would be a nightmare - I'm sure they wouldn't have fond memories of vacation.

WOW; thank you all so much for taking the time to provide your insights. I guess we are being unrealistically ambitious particularly with kids in tow. Time to reconsider. Thanks a million.

"I am one of those that embraces traveling and do not mind fast moving pace" Keano, it's nice that you embrace such travel, but imposting it on a 7 & 10 year old is ridiculous to say the least. Even WaliWorld agrees that it's too much. So what's the problem?
