Planning to visit Spain in 2016. must see are the Cordoba and Grenada. please suggest the best way to get to Spain from Rome, Italy. planning to spend at least 4 days in Spain. What are the best places to eat. There are 4 of us including 2 children ages 11 and 9

Given how far away that is, I'd fly on a budget airline from Rome to either Madrid or Barcelona. It sounds like you mainly want the south, though, and if you only have 4 days, a flight into Seville would be best (or Malaga or Granada) as you dont' have time to visit anywhere up north.

You can fly from Rome to Malaga on Vueling for less than 100 euro each, probably. Check IBeria, also, they have some competitive fares nowadays on that route. Vueling is a budget Spanish airline company. There are no nonstops from Rome to Granada. I don't think there are any to Seville from Rome, either, on any airline. So I'd fly to Malaga given that choice, which is actually in-between Cordoba and Granada, you can easily get to either from malaga. I'd suggest you save more time for this trip than 4 days and visit Cordoba, Malaga and Granada, if you have to fly into Malaga anyway. I'll admit this isn't that convenient a routing but from Rome, flights are limited, so maybe you could work something out.

Otherwise, the train journey would take up most of your trip. Where do you need to return to from Spain, do you need to go back to Italy?

The train takes 30 hours.

Flying is the only reasonable way. Christina gave good advice. Use a flight search website. Most probably Vueling will have the best deal.

So after researching I decided to give 5 days to Spain. My top destinations are Grenada Córdoba coming from Rome Italy. What's in Malaga ?

50 mins with the high speed AVE train to Cordoba (Renfe)
90 mins with bus to Granada (Alsa bus).

Four days is really very little time to spend in Spain esp with 2 kids - and I would start with Seville and then go on to Cordoba and Granada. If at all possible add some days here before heading off to Italy.
