Spaghetti Eis

Is this just a Bavarian thing? My favorite comes from Dolomiti Eis Cafe in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (where they also have wonderful Pizza-Eis, with a hazelnut ice cream "crust", strawberry "red sauce", and toppings of kiwi and other fruits). My teenage step-daughter has heard me and others rave about Spaghetti Eis, and wants to try it. But we won't be in Bavaria on our next trip, rather west of there (near Stuttgart). Has anyone seen it in that area?

Hi E,

Thanks for the tip.

It's "only" ice cream, made to look like Spaghetti. Not a special flavour. HL sell it at almost every store (No-name brand). Not just a Bavarian thing.

It's not "only" ice cream; it's the way it's put together, and the ingredients they use. No way would something bought in a package be the same as home-made in an Eis Cafe. I've just not seen it on menus anywhere outside of Bavaria, not even on the special "ice cream" menus in Switzerland

Sorry, in Munich this would be vanilla plus same raspberry flavour. Nothing special.

I appreciate what you're saying---I've had it along the pedestrian zone in Münich and it was just a strawberry sundae, nothing special. But when it's made properly, it's VERY special. We have duplicated it at home, and it's just as tasty as the Dolomiti's, but a lot of work (I have to get my son to operate the press to extrude the ice cream). I would just like my daughter to be able to try this in Germany, and we don't have time to go all the way to G-P. So I thought someone else may have encountered it. If it's not a Bavarian specialty, we should be able to find it in Baden-Württemberg too.

I've seen Spaghetti Eis on several menus throughout Switzerland, but I've yet to try it, so don't know if it's the "real thing" or not. Certainly looks interesting though...

All it takes to be "real" is really good vanilla ice cream, a freshly-made strawberry puree, white chocolate, and the proper presentation (including a machine to extrude the ice cream).

Where did you see it in Switzerland? I never have seen it there. . . we looked around, but maybe in all the wrong places.
