Southern Italy Winery?

Going to Naples/Capri/Sorrento/Poisitano over Thanksgiving. Has anyone toured a winery or vineyard in that area? I am having a hard time finding ones that seem open to the public. Any direction or advice appreciated!

Do not waste your time that late in the year. You will have more than enough to keep you very busy. Take a good jacket.

I really want to hit at least one winery....any reccommendations closer to Rome? I know it isn't the best season, but just want to have the experience.

There are wonderful wines made in the Benevento and in Avellino. You can check www.Slowfood.com, for starters, to get the names of wineries. Which ones have you contacted that are not open to visitors? Will you have a car?

You chose late November--not a time to visit wineries. Find a place that makes limoncello in Amalfi.

Why is late November not a time to visit wineries?

We've visited Italy numerous times over Thanksgiving and have not have any trouble finding wineries that were open.

Try the following wineries outside of Naples:

Azienda Vinicola Michele Mastroberardino 83042 Atripalda Avellino (Italy)
Tel. ++39 825 614.111 Fax ++39 825 614.231/254
p.iva 00080500648
[email protected]

Feudi di San Gregoria Aziende Agricole S.p.A.
Localita Carza Grossa
83050 Sorbo Serpico Avellino Italy
p.IVA 01753470648
tel +39 0825 986611

Both have highly rated wines and produce those from indigenous grapes.

If you have a car and can venture further afield, try:
Villa Matilde
S.S. Domitiana 18 Km 4+700
81030 Cellole(CE)Italy

Website: www.fattoriavillamatilde.com
Email: [email protected]
Phone: 0823 932088
Fax: 0823 931234

You can also try many other producers at the following

Thanks, Lori! I would think late November would be a good time to visit, after the harvest was over.

Here is the SlowFood list for Avellino wineries. You can e-mail them or look at their web sites for directions and appointments for tastings.

Thanks so much! I am just used to seeing hours posted on winery websites, it appears that appointments need to made for the most part. Has anyone taken public trasportattion to any near Naples or Rome? We may rent a car, but are trying to avoid it. Thanks so much!
