Southern Italy In February 2008
We're planning a month long visit to my father's hometown in Cosenza, Calabria and would also wish to make a Souther tour of Italy, Sicily and the Amalfi Coastline. We're concerned about weather (read a meteorological website which predicted a tsunami on the Eastern Coast of Italy - any truth to that?)

Ummmmm...
This is a joke, right? Tsunamis are produced by earthquakes, not weather. |
Not to worry ... it was due in February 2008.
It's because tsunamis occur there (due to an earthquake) once a century and the last one happened in 1908. http://tinyurl.com/5aabjb Your title suggests that's when you plan to be there, but that's now impossible. Again - not to worry. |
No Joke.
TuckH confirmed the 100 yr theory. And yes, it seems February is our target time to visit S. Italy. Thanks TuckH - I have been trying to find a seasonal weather chart, but have not been lucky to find one as yet. Any suggestions? |

Since your concern is earthquake related, the time of year (February) is irrelevant. You're going in 2009, not 08 as your title infers... |
This will be close:

Is February the only time you can go? An Italian friend of mine visited his family in Sicily last February and reported that it was a bit rainy and cold.
