Southern Italy in December. Recommendations? Weather?

Hello,

My family of 4 (myself, my wife, college daughter and son) is thinking about going to southern Italy in December.

Any recommendations about a destination? We just came back from Turkey, and loved it. We didn't book hotels in advance, other than for the first day. We just found a reasonably-priced hotel and then began exploring.

We live in Seattle, Washington, and one goal I have in December is to escape gray, rainy weather.

What would the weather be like in December in southern Italy?

You might llike Puglia, the heel of Italy, interesting and diversified sceneries, architectures, cheap and good food, lovely sea.

I visited the area in this past January, blue sky, themperature around 20C (60F) most of the daytime.
