Southeast Sicily for 10 days

Hello,

Am starting to plan a trip to Sicily. Will end a business trip in Syracuse and am hoping for a slow paced 10 day trip around.

Am looking at
3 days in Syracuse (and surrounding beaches)
3 days in the baroque towns, maybe Modica?
3 days in agro tourism

We will be there in mid-July. Will it be too hot to visit during the day? Any one have recommendations as to where to stay, or would recommend a different itinerary?

We would like to travel by train when possible, and rent a car if necessary for the agrotourism part.

any suggestions welcomed! thank you!

For Siracusa, I strongly recommend that you stay in Ortygia. I was pleased with L'Approdo della Sirene:

You may need to use buses rather than trains for some of the Baroque Towns, but I'm not sure. Check the Rough Guide (which provides excellent coverage of Sicily in general).

Thanks kja,

looking at syracuse, we are thinking of staying for a full week and get a self-catered apartment type place. Is a full week in Syracuse too long? Looks like you can swim right from Ortygia, which would be a great compromise with my husband who prefers sitting in a cafe, and me who prefers the beach!

Thanks for the b&b recommendation. Will look into it for longer term stay!

"Is a full week in Syracuse too long?"

Well, that would depend on your interests, but is not inconsistent with your hope for a slow-paced trip. It might be a bit trickier if you are reluctant to rent a car -- and Ortygia is not car-friendly! Noto is easily reached from Siracusa, whether by bus or train, but I'm not sure how easy it would be for you to visit the other Baroque towns.

Hello,

I suggest the Marine Protected Area of Plemmirio for scuba diving or just swimming.

We just spent 5 days in Siracusa are andhad no trouble filling our time. We did have a car to get around and not sure about public transportation. We took one day and did a beautiful drive to Mt. Etna and the area around it.
