Southeast England: Stately Homes, Canterbury & Dover
#42
Every time I've been it has been timed tickets. Arriving early and having tea in the cafe, only once did I not get the first entry of the day. And that was a special either members day or garden day of some sort (the details are foggy) - I couldn't get in til early afternoon.

Your suggestion, annhig, to look in the book. I don't have the energy at the moment to look on the website but it would be odd, wouldn't it, if it weren't there. Or maybe a ploy to give notice to members so they know to arrive early?

I'll plan to be the first at the gate for Chartwell, so even if they do have timed entries on a Tuesday I'll get in. As suggested, I can do the garden & studio first since they open before the house. In looking over my plans, I think I'll revise my daily itinerary for just two sites per day to take into account a leisurely house visit, cafe time and driving to/fro. If I have to, I'll eliminate Canterbury and do it another time since that's an easy day trip from London. Will ponder the maps and re-post a revised itineray for your thoughts - as always, thanks for the input!

Found it! in VERY small type at the bottom of the opening times page.
really they should make it more prominent rather than hiding it where people aren't likely to see it.
anyway, here you are:
