Southampton to Gatwick - do we have enough time?

We arrive on the Queen Mary 2 at the Southampton Cruise Terminal on Nov. 11, 2009. Docking is scheduled for 6:30am. Husband & I will disembark with the first group, hauling off our own luggage (carryons only).

Our British Airways flight to Rome leaves at 2:05pm.

Smiths for Airports said they schedule their drivers to meet at 8:30am because it takes that long for the first passengers to arrive at the meeting place in the terminal.

Do you think an 8:30am meeting time will get us to the airport in time to allow for checkin, security, & getting to the gate?

Thanks

Yes.

A journey from Southampton to either Heathrow or Gatwick (you don't say which) is almost certain to take less than two hours. You should therefore be at the airport nearly 3.5 hours before your flight time. Your problem will be finding a way of spending the time.

Thanks chartley. I appreciate your prompt response. I really appreciate that you are advising me that we will have plenty of time! BTW, I'm sure you just overlooked it, no harm, but I put the airport in my post title - Gatwick.

I'm sure we will be hungry after a very early breakfast & flight doesn't leave until 2pm. Plus by the time we get to Rome, get to our accomodations, checkin, & then get out to eat....well, we are going to need to eat something at Gatwick. So, I assume that Gatwick like other airports has dining options before & after the security check area?

Thanks, Julie

Julie,

Gatwick has a number of dining options. I suggest you have a look at their website. www.gatwickairport.com

thanks historytraveler, I went to the website. Obviously we won't starve at Gatwick!
