South West France Dordogne Region
 

Hello,

My friend and I are going to France March 24-April 5 this year, so excited.

We have finally made an itinerary of all the cities we're going to. We've booked our hotels and our rental car. Now we're looking/planning things to do and see. If you have any suggestions on any activities and sites to do/see in the following cities, we'd love it.
Toulouse
Auch
Millau
Carcassone
Ax Les Thermes

Although you have mentioned the Dordogne in your heading, none of these places is in the Dordogne, which has no 'cities.' Are you interested in the Dordogne, or other places in the South west?

Same here. The places you list aren't in the Dordogne. So where are you going?

Get the Michelin Green Guide for France at a minimum; it will give you an idea of what there is to see in the cities you listed. But what you list is in the Midi-Pyrénées region, so maybe that guide would suit your purposes better.

My apologies, i made a grave mistake, I meant Midi-Pyrénées region.

I have been to Auch, Carcassonne and Toulouse. Auch is a dowfy little town, but it does have its' charms. The Cath edrale Ste. Marie overlooking the Gers River is worth seeing for its' stained glass and wooden carvings. I remember having some very good meals there at the Hotel de France, Cafe Gascon Le Table D'Oste (formerly La Table de Hote: the latter 2 are located right next to each other on Rue Lamartine, next to the farmers market).

Carcassonne is worth a visit to see the walled city, but also to see the original restoration blueprints and diagrams of Viollet le Duc, who began the restoration of Carcassonne in 1844. There is much debate as to whether he restored it faithfully or if it is a 19th century ideal of what a 13th century structure should look like. Either way, it is amazing to see the end result.

Toulouse is a major city of the Southwest; be sure to see the Basilica St. Sernin, Musee d' Assezat, Place Capitole and of coursr views of the Garonne River. Toulouse still remains one of my favorite French cities.
