South of France Itinerary Help

Have just booked a very last-minute, first time trip to Nice and environs. Arrive Monday, May 20, depart Tuesday May 28. I have a 6 am flight on the 28th so need to be in Nice the night before.

Focus will be on relaxing, art, architecture, a little food, a little wine... Well, that's what I say now, I am a fairly active traveller.

No car, will rely on the train and bus systems.

I would like to have two bases, the first Nice and the second ?? Need your suggestions here.

Do I have enough time to travel to Aix-en-Provence and make that my second base for 3 or 4 nights, or is Aix not the right choice?

I have read a bit about the SOF and eastern Provence over the past couple of years, and Cannes and Monaco do not appeal to me.

Any and all help much appreciated as I would really like to make my hotel reservations soon!

Cheers,
Linda

Aix was a nice base for us, but maybe it depends on what you want to see. I think I read from somewhere on this board that Avignon would be more central. We visited Avignon and enjoyed that city too.

Thanks, Kat, for your reply. Unfortunately I have had to reschedule my trip yet again... one day I'll get to Nice!
