update

Current status:
The stormy rains continue to affect mainly the south-east to the east of the Rhone.
The central part of the Var has been particularly affected and there were some places up to 150 mm during the last 6 hours. Elsewhere there are accumulations of rain between 20 and 80 mm.

Changes planned:
Tonight and during the night, poor conditions continue to affect the South East in particular PACA, Drome and Corsica. Provence is the area most affected in particular the Var, where the totals since the beginning of the episode may reach 200-250 mm mainly in the central part of the Var.

We will arrive in Provence on Friday afternoon. According to the forecast, the storm will have passed by then - hopefully.

Thanks, Mimi

Isn't there also going to be an air controllers strike when you are due to arrive, Stu?

Well my good wishes the air controllers are not on strike and that this horrible storm has passed.

Wishing you two a beautiful time!

Mimi, the video of the storm is scary, the poor residents and such a sad loss of life.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/europe/10327034.stm also has video.
Terrifying pictures.
A colleague of my husband has lost his car and all his camping gear, but thankfully he and his wife are safe.

joannyc, that video clip was sobering. Thanks for this information, all. I have friends supposedly driving south towards Provence now, and am wondering where they are.

Horrifying, Mimi. And I guess another storm has hit the area as the article said Wednesday night would see more terrible weather and it would be 10:30PM there I think.

And very terrible for the residents, especially the 19 or so that were killed. A true tragedy.

Power outage, 96,000 residents without power. That would be the hotels/B&B's also I would think. No mention in the CNN article that Mimi posted as to when the the power might be restored.
