South coast w/o tourists
Is there a south coast area without
german, british, american tourists?
Thanks! Gp
|
Fodors

Is that the south coast of France or of Ukraine ? If you have England in mind, I suggest Southampton and Doiver. They are little visited because they were much damaged in Hitler's War. A week in either would be an imposition: a day would be pleasant.

Ben Haines, London

I believe the south coast of Antarctica is bereft of all tourists. The south coast of Kansas has no tourists, either.

For Elvira: I think this forum discusses Europe.

Ben Haines

Ben, Elvira - - Greg surely means the mediterranean coast - - somewhere between Gibraltar and Istanbul.

Shouldn't we go ahead and tell him the truth?

No, Greg, there is no such place devoid of German, British and American tourists. Indeed, since 1951, they have been holding hands in a single unbroken line - - now that you haven't threatened "them", your name has been whispered up and down the line, and they will be more determined than ever to keep you out.
|
and one more thing - - silly Elvira - - Antarctica only has an East coast! - - though admittedly, it does contain all 24 time zones.

Try the island of Elba. The only tourist I know of there was French, and exiled.

Cute answers guys. What I am seeking
is a place for travellers, not tourists.
A traveller is one who stays in budget
hotels, often speaks the language of
the land, etc. You all know what tourists are. My mistake in consulting
this forum-I will find my place. Gp
|
Sorry Greg, but most of us who "answered cute" *are* travelers. Your mistake might have been the way you put the question.

I wrote to this guy with our collective olive branch and he tells me he meant Spain.

I would not have guessed this. I really predicted he was going to say France.

So now back to his question, in all seriousness, the prospects of finding somewhere on the Costa del Sol with a MINIMUM number (forget zero!) of German, British and American tourists is NOT good. They really are holding hands from Marbella to Malaga, and I don't know the rest of the Costa east of there. Anybody else want to chime in?

Bottom line, Greg, I don't think "travelers" go to the Costa del Sol.

You know I tried being a tourist once. It didn't kill me and I got a dynamite tan. You pays your money and you takes your chances! For me, not every vacation has to live up to the perfect intellectual criteria of the "best" trip I ever took.

Sometimes, cheesecake has its place on the menu!

I'm still very chilled after a week on the west coast of Scotland celebrating the BEST New Year; and I wasn't here so it wasn't MY irony he was objecting to.

But it might have been and I think he got the call right. If he can't see the stupidity in his question and the humour in the answers, then......

But Rex, you are obviously a nice guy. I hope you can keep the rest of us on the straight and narrow. Please leave me my irony, however. It is becomimg my life's ambition to introduce the concept across the pond. And I intend to take lessons from Ben and Elvira/Marna

¡Qué grupo de pendejos! Estaba allí dentro del grupo "españa" y por eso
puse la referenica la costa sur. No sabía que sería tan grande de lío. Ojalá
que vea a vosotros en mis viajes a la
península. ¡Ya basta!.

Get your phrase books out, tourists
|
I agree with Sheila. I think he got the call right.

Sincerely,

An American Tourist
