South Bank Dining

We will be staying around the County Hall complex this summer. Does anyone have suggestions for some great food in the area? We are open to any type of cuisine. We have 2 girls ( ages 8 & 13 ) who also enjoy good food but also places that aren't too "stuffy" when it comes to children. Thanks in advance for any input.......

Hi LY,

Where are you going?

Ljyoung Feb 21st, 2004 09:56 AM

Hello IRA: Do you mean where will be staying or where are we going to go on our trip ( We're actually starting up in Scotland and working our way down to London )? Thanks for any help re: restaurants.

Hi again,

I just didn't know what South Bank you were talking about.

You might wish to repost with a more precise title.

Sorry, I can't help.

Don't worry - you don't need a new title. Just as "Left Bank" is probably about Paris, "south bank" is most likely about London and most Fodorites would know what you are asking about.

I posted this to your other thread but will add it here too . . .

There are two good restaurants in the Royal festival Hall just down river from
County Hall. Festival Square is a moderately priced cafe w/ good food, and the Peoples' Palace is upstairs, pricier but not outrageous, with great views and very good food.

Hi Ljyoung - me again.

To be fair, Ira has a point - it wouldn't be clear to anyone who hadn't read your previous post about London which city you were talking about.

I can't really give any firm recommendations for what you are looking for as I haven't visited the area with children but I'm sure you'll find plenty of places close to County Hall. I wouldn't get too hung up on the "South Bank/Southwark" thing, however. The County Hall Travel Inn is right next to Westminster Bridge & so the other side of the river is also going to be very convenient for you.

In fact, to quote a famous (fictional)resident of South London, the world's your lobster!

You and the kids might enjoy the Waterloo Firehouse, just south of Waterloo Station, and quite close to you. It is a large converted firehouse -- put/restaurant. Casual and boisterous.

Thanks everyone for your input to date. I'm sure we'll put it to good use....Lynda
