I can't answer your questions but I thought it was an EXCELLENT tour. Take the optional luge ride. The salt mine tour was also good. I thought they operated every day but it's been a few years so things may have changed. Your hotel may know. Enjoy!

I took Bob's tour on a Sunday, Mother's Day, actually, in 1995. It was so much fun. Make sure you watch the movie before you leave! Be prepared to drive around the Austrian countryside singing tunes from the show! It's cheesy, it's goofy...but it's a blast.

My only complaint is that they took us to a souvenir shop, and later, a cafe for snacks, and you could tell they were only pointing out specific places which would give them kickbacks. There were two gift shops in one stop and the guide kept telling us to go to one in particular, that it was better...when really they were pretty much the same. And then through the whole tour he was telling us about the yummy apple struedel at the cafe he'd take us to later, so that by the time we got there, everyone was drooling to have some. Turned out it cost me about 15$(Cdn, then worth about 11 or 12$US) for a coffee and one piece of this struedel, which was really nothing special. I felt cheated. And I was on a super strict budget on that particular trip and didn't have enough money to have a real lunch OR supper that day because of Cafe Braun and a greedy tour guide (though he WAS really funny... a guy from Australia who really knows his SOM trivia). But anyway, you don't have to go with their suggestions, so it doesn't make much difference to the tour itself.

I know it was corny but I LOVED it. Since the tour took us to the countryside we got to see the lakes which made us want to go stay at the lakes for a couple of days. There were many zimmers for rent. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time. If you have time, you may want to try it. I don't remember which tour we took (they all sound about the same) but they had a van pick us up at our gasthaus which was on the outskirts of town and bring us right to the bus in the center sqaure. The hospitality in Austria was great! We also went on our own to Hallein (I think) and went on the salt mine tour. We were disappointed because they gave us these white suits to wear and we thought we were going to get dirty, but nothing happened. Also, the tour was in German so we didn't understand a thing. Be sure to get an English tour.
