SOS: Suggest Our Sleeping place

We are a family of four: mom, dad, two daughters (13 & 16 years old), looking for an inexpensive place to stay in Salzburg, Vienna and Prague. I have run out of places to check online and need some new suggestions. Bed & breakfasts would be idea as we do not want to stay in chain hotels. This will for the beginning of August, the last part of a 6-week trekk across Europe which we start July 2. Whew! Thanks!

Hi

We stayed at the Pensione Dientzenhofer in Prague and loved it.

Thanks, Ira, I will try them.
I am getting a lot of information about other places just reading through the other responses BUT nothing about inexpensive places in Salzburg. I am beginning to wonder if this is a city with no bargains!!

For Prague check www.travel.cz
We stayed in one of their apartments (Jungmann) which was spacious (3 bedrooms, living and dining room) for $140 a night in high season. They were very friendly and picked us up at the airport when our flight was over an hour late. Top notch operation

I think you have to realize that when you say you don;t want to stay in "chain hotels" that includes a LOT of properties which may have some decent rates. I could easily recommend the Elefant but that's part of a "chain" so I won't go any further...sorry.

A copule of years ago, we stayed at the 3* Trumer Stube in Salzburg. At that time, it was around $80 for a double including breakfast. I felt it was inexpensive considering it's in a fabulous location. If you want to check them out:

This Salzburg website might also be of help:

I'm not certain what you think inexpensive is, but the last time I was in Salzburg (2001), I stayed at the Weisses-Kreuz (at the base of the fortress and right next to the Kapitelplatz - good location) and liked it. A double (for 1) was around US$40 with breakfast included.

A good site for Salzburg is:

Look under "accomodations" and there is a Budget 2003 link that lists all of the bargain packages for the year.

You might book tickets for the Marionette Theater if your kids would be interested (I've been twice and loved it):

Also, the concerts at the fortress are usually good music with great views:

Also, the zoo at Hellbrunn Palace was not crowded and was in a reall beautiful setting. I don't know if you're driving or not, but Hellbrunn is easy to get to on public transportation.

I can look up the pensione that I stayed it in Vienna if you're still looking for inexpensive there, too. If you and/or your kids like chocolate at all, you should take them to:

Altmann & Kuhne (Am Graben 30, A-1010 Vienna)

It's one of my favorite chocolate shops and (I believe) would really appeal to kids, too.

Have a wonderful trip!
