Sorrento webcam and Holy Friday Procession
 

I should have posted it a little earlier, but if you are online, are webcam addicted, and are curious to see what is going on in Sorrento at 3.00 a.m., this is the right time to get connected to Sorrento...loads of people on the streets...

The white procession symbolize the Holy Mary looking for his Son...tomorrow night there will be a Black Procession, with the black colour (rather than white) symbolizing the mourning after Christ's death

I love the atmosphere you feel during this procession with thousands of people in the old streets of town in the middle of the night. Too bad you don't have the audio...you could ear the silence of everybody, and the chorus (that walks ath the end of the procession) getting closer speaking loudly the "MISERERE" in latin...

I said 8.00 p.m., but officially the procession starts at 7.30 p.m.

Francesco, I was in Sorrento this last Saturday and the webcam wasn't there, I am so glad it was put right back. Maybe it was getting cleaned for Easter.

Francesco, how thoughtful of you to let us know about this! I'm disappointed that I missed the procession last night , but I will try to watch today in between baking for Easter dinner. You remind me of another person, Vincenzo, who used to share so much information here about Italy, especially the Sorrento area.

Hi Francesco Thank you so much for the brilliant idea of letting us know about the processions passing by the webcam. It has helped so much, and making me miss Sorrento so much too, because last year there I was in the streets watching! You are right about the sound though, which is so beautiful. with the cadence of the drums, and the sound of the MISERERE in the night. Sending you wishes for a very happy Easter!

francesco, we decided at the last minute to spend a long day in Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast (coming down from Rome).

I have my computer all ready to catch the procession, it is exciting to see all the preparations on the web cam.

They'll be starting within minutes, but as you can see from the schedule (http://www.processioni.com/itinerari_sorrento.htm), they'll go by the webcam (Via Tasso/Via sanCesareo) later on.
The procession starts from the road up on the left(via Sersale), few meters away from the webcam "sight": via Sersale would be the coninuation going up of the road(via Tasso), that you see on the upper left of the screen (these 2 streets are separeted by Corso Italia

Is anyone having a problem with the refresh on the webcam? I have always had mine set to 5 seconds but now it's taking more like a minute. I tried posting a minute ago but my post didn't show.

Mine's not refreshing either unless I manually press "refresh." Oh well...

My computer is all so slow today that it isn't refreshing on time either! Did I miss it? My computer must be possessed.

I've just seen the procession along Corso italia...now it should be on its way towards Piazza Tasso to Via Luigi De Maio, so I guess in 20 minutes (30 min. max) you'll see it coming from the road on the bottom...if your connections will help you!!!
Wait until the end of it: after the first chorus you'll see a wooden statue of the body of Christ followed by another chorus and a vertical statue of the Holy Mary following and mourning the body of Her Son after She's found Him dead.

It looks like something is going on... wish we had a better view! =)

I'm glad you've enjoyed it. Sorrento becomes magical in certain moments and this is one of them (wether you believe or not). I'm happy I could share this with all of you. I've just made it back home on my moto-bike...there's more than one procession going on on the Sorrento peninsula, so most of the roads are closed and traffic gets easily stuck all over the place (I had to use narrow secret alleys!!! ;-) )
