SeaUrchin - thanks for sharing! It's awsome, only - novice that I am so don't laugh at the question - how do you get it to your desktop? And how does it renew?

perryd, it is fun. When you log onto slowtrav.com/italy on the righthand side and down a bit on the screen is the webcam access which is underlined. Press on it and then when user name comes up put in guest and for the password put in access. When the picture comes up look on the left side bottom for a drop down on how many seconds you choose for the picture to be renewed.

Welcome to the web cam addict thread!

OK, I'm hooked. My entire family now checks in on this thing.

Why does the Tabacchi shop open so late? Isn't it 4 in the afternoon there and they've just now opened the doors.

He opens at about 8am, closes at 1pm for siesta, and re-opens at 4. He's sometimes still open at midnight.

I can't believe it!!! They've taken down the flags, and I missed it! When did that happen?

No, no, it's much better without the flags. You can see better. Why, just a few weeks ago some fodorite offered to go there and tear them down.

errr, yes, that was me, because I couldn't see the lovely man in the gift shop to the right of the tabacchi properly. I did go, but I couldn't reach them, so as consolation went in the shop and saw him for real instead! He looked even better in 3D.

Sigrid I went in and talked to him too. He was getting on his bike and I mentioned the web cam and he nodded wearily and smiled. He was very nice wasn't he and now we can see him better!

I went back! Last week. My son went online at the internet cafe, 'spoke' to his friend in Australia, and kept running outside to wave to him. The tourist info. lady was not impressed.
By the way, the 'chalk' mark around the paving stone/cobble isn't chalk at all...it's new cement.

I love the Venice webcam near the Grand Canal vaporetto stop San Toma which is at http://turismo.regione.veneto.it/webcam/webcam2.html.

When we were recently in Venice we stood at the vaporetto stop and talked to our son in Australia while he opened the link and saw that we were still alive !

Hi everyone! I was so happy to find out that I'm not the only person crazy about this cam! At first I thought it was like all the others, but it's been a year(!) I watch it! It's like a little window and it's always on my desktop. It's a real addiction. Now want to go there to see everything myself...

Xenia, it's a must! It's a lovely town. I went in July and returned in October for another look. It was like coming home. Let us all know when you go, and we'll look out for you
